FAMILY NIGHT SUPPER On Sunday evening at 6 p.m. the members of the 1st Pres byterian Church of Joanna had a family night supper. It was held in the church house. The large group enjoyed the delicious meal and informal conversation. Rev. Mrs. Phyllis Fuller will enter the Self Memorial Hospital today, May 29 to undergo ear surgery on Friday, May 30. Mrs. Chrystell C. Morse RECEIVES DISCHARGE Sgt. Larry Medlock has just returned from Vietnam where he spent eight months. He has been on three tours of duty there dur ing his stay in the service. On May 12, he received his dis charge at Fort Jackson. Sgt. Medlock is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Medlock on the Whit mire Highway near Joanna. Dr. Mixon was appointed chair man of the committee on as sistance to new graduates at the state Optometric Convention held in Myrtle Beach recently.Others serving on this committee are the presidents of the five other op tometric zones inSouthCarolina. * ♦ ♦ Swimming Pool Seminar Set For June 3-5 The Safety Services Com mittee, Laurens County Chap ter of the American Red Cross is sponsoring a Swimming Pool Management Seminar to lie held on Tuesday, June 3rd, and Thurs day, June 5th, from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., at the American Lava Corporation classroom. Jack Wightman of the Green ville, S. C., YMCA will conduct the seminar. The topic for the Tuesday, June 3rd, session is “The Life guard." This session will deal with the qualifications, duties and respon sibilities of lifeguards. The topic for the Thursday, June 5th, ses sion is “Pool Management." Areas to be discussed are pool maintenance, operation and su pervision. Persons attending this session should know some de tails about their pool suchaspool capacity in gallons, type of fil tering equipment, type of chlorine system, and capacity of the pump n gallons per minute. All interested persons are in vited to attend one or both ses sions. It is especially urged that pool managers, lifeguards, pool committees and instructors at tend both sessions. MISS DARBY HAS PARTY Friday evening a birthday par ty was held at the Lydia Com munity Building in honor of Miss Ann Darby with her grandmother, Mrs. Laura Darby as hostess. After several games the birth day cake was cut and served with ice cream, potato chips and cold drinks. Miss Pam Brown and Miss Laura Darby assisted in entertaining.
