Sgt. and Mrs. Virgil Morgan and Spec. 4 Johnny Franklin of Ft. Jackson, and Miss Jennifer Barnes enjoyed Sunday at Myrtle Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Phillips visited in Pickens and the sur rounding area on Sunday after noon. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Wood- row Crouch of Joanna and Mrs. Helen Crouch of Kinards visit ed Mrs. May Derrick who is a pa tient at the Mills Clinic in Pros perity. Mrs. Clara Morgan is a pa tient at the Newberry Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Lake and family of Columbia visited Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Moore and Mrs. Ruth Thomas on Sunday after noon. Mrs. Mack Brown is spending the week in Rock Hill with Mr. and Mrs. Maxie Brown and fami ly. Mr. and Mrs. Buford Lowery spent the weekend in Sumter with Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Alsbrook. Mrs. Julia Able of Saluda en joyed several days with her daughter, Mrs. Harriet Nabors. She and Mrs. Cancie Brown ac companied her home on Friday. Before returning to Joanna they visited Mrs. Ada Edmonds in Ridge Springs. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Elliott and Mrs. Cancie Brown enjoyed a fishing trip on Saturday at Lake Murray. They came home with 21 crappies in all. ON LEAVE Aviation Machiniest Mate Wil fred Bragg has completed four months of schooling at Milling ton, Tenn. He is spending a 15- day-leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bragg. He will leave today, (Thursday) for Almeda, Calif., at the Naval Air Station. LEAVES FOR FLORIDA Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Holly and Stacy left on Tuesday, for Pana ma City, Fla., where he will be gin service at St Andrews Bap tist Church there. He has been here for a year. IN CALIFORNIA Pvt. Paul Taylor left for Camp Penleton, Calif., last Thursday after spending a leave with his mother, Mrs. Mary Alice Taylor in Renno. He will be there for a months training and then go to Vietnam for a years tour of duty there. Stanley Finch, director of public relations and sales train ing for Texize Chemicals, Inc., will be featured speaker tonight at the “Farmer’s Night" meet ing of the Clinton Kiwanis Club. Area farmers will be special guests at the dinner meeting which will start at 7 p.m. at Mary Musgrove Hotel. Henderson Pitts is in charge of the program and has issued invitations to area farmers on behalf of the Com mittee on Agriculture and Con servation. A noted after-dinner speaker, Mr. Finch joined Texize Company as a salesman and rose rapidly to his present position. Prior to joining Texize, he served as sales manager for one of the South’s largest frozen food dis tributors and also was sales ex ecutive for two of the nation’s leading manufacturers of soft drinks. Henry Chandler Gets Federal Appointment Henry G. Chandler Jr. of Clin ton has been sworn in as special assistant to the federal co-chair man ofthe Coastal Plains Region al Commission. The commission is a joint fed eral-state partnership organized to plan and carry out long-range programs to boost jobs and in come in 159-county area of the Carolina and Georgia. Chandler’s appointment to the $25,000 per year top administrative post was announced by G. FredSteele, fed eral co-chairman ofthe commis sion. North Carolina Gov. Bob Scott is the commission state co- chairman. Gov. Lester Maddox of Georgia and Gov. Robert Mc Nair of South Carolina are state members. Chandler will be associated with Steele in carrying out the functions of the federal co-chair man’s office in Washington, D.C. The commission has field of fices in Atlanta, Columbia and Raleigh, the capitals of the three states. Chandler, a former aide to Sen. Strom Thurmond, and the man who directed the senator’s 1966 re-election campaign, was vice president of PRAMAC Asso ciates, Inc., a public relations Holley Accepts Florida Position Jeff Holley of Joanna has ac cepted a call to Panama City, Fla., as minister of education at St. Andrews Baptist Church. Holley served as minister of education and youth at First Bap tist Church in Joanna for the past year. He assumed his new duties in Panama City this week. Foster Aboard Assault Ship Seaman Apprentice Gerald R. Foster, USN, son of Mr. Paul Foster of 306 Bailey St., of Clinton, is serving aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Princeton at San Diego, Calif. The Princeton is the prime re covery ship for the nation’s Apollo Ten moonshot in late May. The ship will carry a 10-heli- copter detachment from Helicop ter Antisubmarine Squadron Four (HS-4) at the Naval Air Station at Imperial Beach, Calif. The 24-year old ship is leaving for Hawaii while making final preparations and training maneu vers before departing for the prime recovery area in the Pa cific Ocean. firm in Columbia, prior to join ing the commission. Mrs. Hayne Workman Jr. re cently spent a night with Mr. and Mrs. Workman Sr. at Kinards. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Shilling- law and children of Rock Hill visited Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Leaman recently. Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Boazman were Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Simpson of Clinton and Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Gregory of Greenwood. Mr. Boazman is im proving after being quite ill since early Fall. A number of friends attended the funeral of Mrs. Alvin Mc- Curry of Lake Greenwood. Mr. and Mrs. McCurry livedinCross Hill for a number of years. Mrs. J. O. Denny and Miss Anne Denny of Columbia were visitors in town recently. E. L. Floyd of Greenwood and Wayne Eliott of Labor City, N.C. were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Segars. Both Mr. and Mrs. Segars taught Wayne Elliott when he was at Green Sea High School.
