C., May 8, 1969—3-A Truth In Lending' Conference Set Monday The Clinton Chamber of Com merce will assist local mer chants who wish to attend the “Truth in Lending” conference which is scheduled for Green ville Monday, May 12. Chamber of Commerce Presi dent George Cornelson said lo cal merchants who wish to attend the conference sponsored by the Retail Council may call the local Chamber of Commerce office if they need assistance in ar ranging transportation. Cornelson said, “We believe this conference may be extreme ly important to many local mer chants.” The conference will be held at the Jack Tarr Hotel, starting at 9:30 a.m., and will feature Vic tor E. Pregeant, assistant vice president of the Federal Reserve Bank in Richmond, Va., and Thomas C. Phillips, and attor ney with Sears and Roebuck Co. in Atlanta, Ga. The conference will deal with Regulation of the Truth in Lend ing Law. The regulation goes into effect July 1 and affects any in dividual or organization that ex tends or arranges credit for which a finance charge is or may be payable or is repayable in more than four installments. Violation of the regulation can result in fines ranging from $100 up to $5,000 or imprisonment for one year or combinations of fines and imprisonment City Police Report 161 April Arrests Clinton Police reported 161 ar rests during the month of ApriL Speeding and reckless driving led the list with 65 arrests. Con tributing to the number of speed ing arrests was the fact that the police have put into operation the city’s new radar speed check equipment. There were 36 Jarrests for drunkenness and 22 for disorder ly conduct. Ten arests were made for fighting. Other charges included: carry ing concealed weapons, 3; vio lating liquor law, 6; operating auto without driver’s license, 5; damaging private or public property, 3; trespassing, 2; petty larceny, 2. A total of 173 parking tickets were given during the month.
