Moon celebrated her 8th birthday on April 7, with a party at the home of her parents on South Bell Street. The center of the table was a- dorned with a birthday cake. HARRISONS VISIT Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Harri son and children of Jamacia.N.Y. spent the Easter holidays with the former’s mother, Mrs. LulaMae Wilson. Mrs. Harrison is the former Atha Wilson of Clinton. McMATH WINS HOPE PRIZE Mr. Alexander McMath, son of Dr. and Mrs. W. J. McMath, was recently awarded the first place John Hope Prize for the best landscape painting in the Atlanta University 28th Annaul Art Ex hibition. The prize was $250. Mr. McMath is a graduate of Bell Street High School and earned his B.A. degree from Morehouse College of Atlanta, Ga. He will begin work toward the M.F.A. degree at the Uni versity of California this summer. While in undergraduate school, Mr. McMath managed to grad uate with a double major in Eng lish and Art and a minor in Music. Aside from winning the above awards, in 1967 he won first place in the Atlanta University Art Contest. Also, in 1967 he was chosen by The Atlanta High Mu seum to exhibit his art work at the annual Piedmont Park Arts Festival. In 1968, he was the re cipient of a first place Merit Award of $100 in the annual Emory University Row Art Show. Presently, Mr. McMath is em ployed as a music instructor at Sanders High School in Laurens. N.A.A.C.P. BANQUET The Laurens County Chapter N.A.A.C.P. will hold its annual Woman of the Year Banquet, Fri day, April 11,8 p.m. at the Plaza Motel on the Laurens By-Pass in Laurens. This announcement was made by Dr. J. T. W. Mims, president of the organization. Mrs. M. N. Coker will be the guest speaker. Other participants will include: Rev. E. W. Wright, presiding; Rev. Douglas McCoy, invocation; Mrs. Lois Y. Davis, soloist; toasts by Mr. Benjamin Thomp son, Mrs. Marie Neely and Mrs. P. V. Jones. Mrs. Lucinda Beas ley will present the speaker. Words of appreciation will be given by Mr. Willie E. Beasley. Mrs. A. T. Mims will crown the Woman of the Year. Mr. Robert L. Beasley, chairman of the fi nance committee, will be as sisted by Mrs. A. T. Mims, Mrs. Annie Henderson and Mrs. Mag nolia Wright. Rich ard Johnson spent several days with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Earle Johnson last weekend. Margie Spivey of Fountain Inn spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Spivey. Randal Spivey andMr. and Mrs. Tommy Gibbs visited Mrs. Bobby Owens of Fountain Inn Friday. Frank Johnson accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Richard Johnson to Greenville Friday night for the musical show at Textile Hall. Maxine Spivey was in Green ville to visit the Science Fair at Textile Hall on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Dietz are receiving congratulations on a son born recently. Mrs. Dietz before her marriage was Patsy Durham. They have a daughter, Cindy Dietz. Shady Grove Homemakers Ex tension Club met Tuesday April 1st at the clubhouse. Mrs. B. W. Cooper was hostess. Shady Grove Presbyterian Church members will meet Sun day morning for Sunrise Service followed by breakfast in the re creational hall. Miss Sallie Pitts of Atlanta will spend Easter weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David T.
