BPW Hosts Tri-City Meeting On Tuesday, March 11, the Clin ton Business and Professional Women (BPW) was hostess to the Laurens and Greenwood Clubs for the Tri-City Meeting. Party Honors Recent Bride Honoring her daughter-in-law, Mrs, Phillip Brooks Smith, re cent bride, Mrs. D. B. Smith en tertained with a tea at her home on Young Drive, last Wednesday afternoon. Guests were invited into the dining room for party food of decorated cakes, sandwiches, nuts and punch. The table, which was overlaid with a white cut work cloth, was centered with a silver container of pink and white pompom interspersed with gypsophila. Silver candelabras, with pink tapers, were used on either end of the table. Pouring punch was Mrs. Perry Moore. Others assisting were Mrs. John Dowdle, Mrs. Jasper Rowland, Mrs. J. B. Arnold, Mrs. Charles Buice and Miss Lillian Crowder of Elberton, Ga. Also entertainting were friends of the bride, Misses Kathy Lynch, Linda Fowler, Kathy Armstrong, Amy McKee and Lynn Avenger. Out of town guests were Miss Mary Erwin Smith and Miss Lillian Crowder of Elberton, Ga. Last year 55 billion steel cans (mostly so-called "Tin cans) were produced in the United States. \ . ■ w Ginn-Cannon Mr. and Mrs. William M. Ginn of Route 1, Clinton announce the engagement of their daughter, Lacy Charlene to John William Cannon, son of Mrs. Willie M. a beautiful arrangement of daf fodils surrounding a Tara’s harp and at intervals there were sham rocks. In addition to the flowers, there were on the head table a pipe, a hat, and a saucy lep- rachaun sitting on a pot of gold. Mrs. Earl Stewart, Mrs. W. W. Harris, Mrs. Gary Holcomb, and Mrs. Grace Connor did the de corating. Following the introduction of the guests by Mrs. Poole, Mrs. Grace Connor presented a pro gram entitled “Our Town - U.S.A." The program ranged from a brief history of Mary Musgroves’ assistance to Horse shoe Robinson to proper use and display of the United States Flag, to community concern for health, legislation, programs for youth, and concern for people in other countries. Club members par ticipating were Mrs. Mary Beal; Mrs. Wyatt Ledford, Mrs. Bill Crews, Mrs. Perry Moore, Mrs. M. C. Poole, Mrs. Martha Mull er, and Miss June Adair. From the fifth grade, Mrs. C. R. Jenkins, Teresa Coxwell, Daphne Gross and Dianne Harvey told of their social studies class contacting 600 people of whom 116 had not registered. Because of the efforts of this class 52 people who had never voted before voted in the November election. The girls demonstrated cheers they had made up for each of the candidates. Because of the stu dents’ efforts Senator Hollings paid them a visit; Senator Thur mond sent them an autographed picture; and they received an in vitation to President Nixon’s inauguration. The three girls also sang their favorite song, “Born Free." Graham-Jones Mr. and Mrs. William Otis Graham, Sr., of Whitmire an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Lana Ruth to Homer Michael Jones. Miss Graham, a 1968 graduate of Whitmire High School attend ed Presbyterian College. Mr. Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Homer R. Jones, is a 1966 graduate of Clinton High School and a 1968 graduate of North Greenville Junior College. He is presently a junior at Presbyter ian College. The wedding will take place at 4:30 on May 18 at the Whitmire First Wesleyan Church. WCTU The WCTU will meet on Tuesday, March 18, at 3:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Joe V. Ed wards, Sr. on N. Adair. Bonds Crossroad News Shady Grove 4-H Club will meet March 19 at 4 p.m. Members are asked to give demonstrations at this meeting. Lady Golfers Elect Officers The regular luncheon meet ing of Ladies Golf Association was held at Lakeside Country Club on March 4. Officers elected at this time are, Mrs. Laura Hodges of Lau rens, president; Mrs. Ruth Tellerast of Laurens, secretary- treasurer; Mrs. Frances Row land of Clinton, secretary; Mrs. Taddy Atkinson, Laurens Bridge Chairman; Mrs. Bea Ferguson, Clinton Bridge Chairman. The next luncheon meeting will be held Tuesday, March 18 at 12:30 at the Club. This is the beginning of a new year and all ladies who are mem bers are urged to join in the fun and fellowship. * * + Party For Mrs. Ficklin Mrs. Mike Ficklin was honored Friday night, Feb. 21 with a pink and blue shower. Honoring her were Mrs. Janet Carrier, Mrs. Ann Cunningham, and Mrs. Sara B. Moody, at the Long Branch Club House. The serving table was artfully decorated with a white table cover and a center piece arranged with a stork. The gift table was also covered with white and contained an umbrella with a shower of gifts from friends. The 40 guests enjoyed games, with the prize winners being Mrs. D. D. Ficklin, Miss BootsieCun ningham and Mrs. Faye Meadors. Refreshments of cake squares, nuts, mints and punch were served. Study Club Continues Short Story “The Cat and The Coffee Drink ers' was the title of the Max Steele short story which Mrs. J. F. Jacobs read recently to the Wednesday Study Club. The story, whose scene was laid in a colon ial home gave a humerous ac count of a kindergarten, there conducted by a prime old lady. Meeting at the home of Mrs. C. B. Betts on East Walnut St., with chrysanthemums and daffo dils used in decorations. The members enjoyed asaladcourn, coffee and tarts. Electric Club meetings in Lau rens on Thursday night include Wanda Rock (local leader), Linda Franklin, Donna Franklin, Maxine Spivey and Brenda Sum mers. Mrs. James Johnson and Mrs. Jimmy Johnson were in Green ville on Saturday. Mrs. Hub Spivey and Wanda Spivey spent Saturday in Gray Court and visited Mrs. Bobby Owens in Fountain Inn. Lt. David T. Pitts Jr., left recently for duty in Vietnam. Mrs. Pitts has returned to her parents home in Atlanta. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Johnson are receiving congratulations on a granddaughter. Mr. and Mrs. William Johnson of Greenville have a daughter Kimberly Ann, born March 11. SNOWBALL QUEEN— Miss Jane Davis was crowned by Charles Oak ley at the annual Snow* ball Dance given by the Horizon Club of the Camp Fire Girls last Saturday night. Greenville Dining Hall was decorated with green shamrocks carrying out the St. Patrick’s Day theme. Music for danc ing was furnished by the group, “Change of Times” of Union.
