Moore Sr., 501 Blalock Drive, Joanna, and John Randall Will ingham, son of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Willingham, 413 Pickens Street, also of J oanna have earned membership in the elite Summer- all Guards of 1969-70. achieved the ultimate in mili tary accomplishment this week when they were selected to mem bership in the military college’s precision drill team. The 61 win ners of coveted positions as Sum- merall Guards were selected from 500 juniors who were eli gible for the honor. The stren- ous and demanding competition lasted several weeks. The Guards, named for the late Gen. Charles P. Summerall, for mer president of The Citadel, perform a drill that consists of intricate close order movements known as The Citadel Series. This series is performed silently and without command. Although the college receives many requests for the instructions for The Cita del Series, the details of the drill are never recorded. Instead, they are handed down from one class to another in ballad fashion. In a colorful ceremony on The Citadel’s parade ground, 9:45 p.m., March 22, these 61 cadets will officially be designated as the Summerall Guards for the en suing year. Most of the Guardsmen will hold high rank in the Corps of Cadets when they return as sen iors next fall. Cadet Moore holds the rank of sergeant within the South Caro lina Corps of Cadets and serves on the third battalion. Cadet Willingham is a sopho more and is majoring in busi ness administration. He also recently was elected president of the Teens and Twenty’s Youth Assoc. (TnT), composed of about 600 young people in the Charleston area and sponsored by the Baptist Churches in that area. He is a senior at Baptist College and is to gradu ate in December, 1969. Clinton Junior High News BY VFVIAN DAVES For six weeks the band will be having a new teacher. He is Mr. John Rawls, a senior at New berry College. Mr. Rawls is ma joring in Music Education and he plays the trombone, basson, flute, and clarinet. I would like to thank Carol Dailey for this informa tion. Soon we will be getting our annuals, but in the meantime the annual staff is busy selling them. We should receive them around March 20. On March 5, the Juniors of Clinton High delighted us with skits from their play “Don’t Take My Penny”. It played March 6-7. Many of our students attended. For sometime we have been giving red VIP ribbons to all A students every six weeks. Not long ago a “very interesting” poster appeared in the hall. Stu dents were asking Mrs. Wilder and other teachers about it, but it remained a secret until the day we got reports. It said, “We made nothing below a B. SEGARS The members of Bethabara Church surprised their pas tor’s wife, Mrs. James Thomp son, with a birthday dinner on Thursday evening. The honoree received many useful gifts. Mrs. Grady Reynolds and children of Greenwood enjoyed the occasion with their mother and grandmo ther. Mrs. E. P. Bozaman and Mrs. R. B. Segars visited the family of the late Mrs. Ceclle Berry Reynolds near Saluda on Wednes day evening. Mrs. Reynolds passed away Tuesday in a Co lumbia Hospital. Miss Agnes Learn an has trans ferred from Self Memorial Hos pital to the Greenwood Nursing Home where she is recuperating from surgery. Mrs. Louise Gibson of Colum bia visited her sister, Mrs. M. C. Pinson over the weekend. Friends will be interested to know that Mrs. Joe Carter of Greenville is hospitalized at Greenville General where she re cently underwent surgery.
