C. 833-1741 Monday In addition to the 1969-70 bud get, the trustees will consider the various areas of current operations and will review the progress of the Presbyterian College development program. Special emphasis will be given the EXCEL campaign now under way in the Synod of South Caro lina. Dr. Marc C. Weersing, presi dent of PC, will give a general report on the state of the col lege and administrative officers will report on their various de partments. Two other regular items of business scheduled for this spring session are the election of new trustee officers and the selection of honorary degree nominees to be cited at com mencement exercises next May 18. Besides Chairman Wilson, the present officers are: James A. Chapman, Jr., of Spartanburg, vice-chairman; and William L. Watkins of Anderson, secretary. The board of trustees governs Presbyterian College in the name of the Synods of Georgia and South Carolina, which control and support the institution. Of its 32 members, 26 are appointed equally by the two synods, three are elected as alumni represen tatives and three serve as trus tees-at-large upon selection by the board. Administrative officers to re port, along with President Weer sing, are: Academic Dean Joseph M. Gettys, Business Manager G. Edward Campbell, Student Dean A. J. Thackston, Women’s Dean Marion Hill, Development Di rector Powell A. Fraser, and A- lumni and Public Relations Di rector Ben Hay Ham met. The trustee committee chair men are: Academic Affairs--Dr. Merle C. Patterson of Atlanta; Finance and Budget--Wallace M. Montgomery of Marietta, Ga.; Student Activities--Hugh S. Offer Adult Classes All women in the Clinton area who are interested in participat ing in a beginners knitting class are asked to meet at the YMCA Building this Thursday evening, February 27, at 7:00 for an or ganisational meeting. The classes will be held each Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00 til 9:00 p.m. and in structed by Mrs. Alvin Hueble. Those who are unable to attend the first class may Join the class on Tuesday, March 4, at 7:00 p.m. All materials necessary to be gin the course may be purchased at the YMCA for $3.61. SLIM-NASTICS Slim-Nastics class got under way at the Presbyterian Women’s Gymnasium this past Tuesday. About 30 Clinton area ladies have signed up for the course and more are expected. The course Is being Instructed by Mrs. John J. Bingham and will be held each Tuesday and Thurs day. Two classes will be held each day for the convenience of the ladies.One at 10 a.m. on Tuet day and Thursday and one at 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Thurs day. The first phase of the course will be held for an eight week period. OTHER CLASSES Other classes for adult men and women will be offered and will be announced in the near future. A beginners Bridge Class Is expected to be announced within the week and will be instructed by Mrs. John A. Burney. A Ceramics Class will be in the offering for men and women and will be announced as soon as equipment can be set up for the course. Mrs. Frances Lawson has agreed to instruct the class. Other programs and activities are being planned for both adult men and women for the spring season. For service as advisor to Gen eral Chiang-kal-sbek and for service on the General Staff in the Pentagon he was awarded the Legion of Merit In the latter po sition be was responsible for the personnel portion of the Army budget which exceeded three bill ion dollars. Throughout Powell Fraser’s military career he was noted for his religious influence with in the Armed Forces. He was in strumental in the organization of the ProtestantMen-of-theChapel program in Europe. This pro gram has now been adopted by the Army, Navy, and the Air Force on military bases throughout the world. He helped to establish a men’s work program within the Formosa Presbyterian Church and has twice addressed the As sembly-wide Men’s Convention of the Presbyterian Church, U.S., representing the military service and sharing the rostrum with Billy Graham and other disting uished speakers. Electric Motor Service Co. Opens Here Carl H. Venable has opened a new business firm, Electric Mo tor Service Co., in Clinton. The firm is located at 614 Mus- grove Street at the Intersection of Highways 72 and 56 N. A native of Charlotte, Venable, was associated with Jones Elec tric Repairs Co. in Charlotte prior to moving to Clinton. His firm offers electric motor re pairs, including single-phase and three-phase rewind!ngs, both for industries and individuals. He and his wife, the former Sharon Herring, reside in the Renno section. They have two sons and a daughter. Mrs. Ven able was secretary toRossTem pleton, noted Presbyterian Col lege booster, for U years. At Presbyterian College Fra ser has assisted in the develop ment of a ten-year program for the college. Fraser has served as an elder in the First Presbyterian Church in Clinton, the First Presbyter- ina Church at Colorado Springs, Colo., and in Trinity Presbyter ian Church in Montgomery, Ala. He previously served as Modera tor of the Presbytery of South Carolina. In 1965 he was elect ed by the General Assembly as a member of the Board of Chris tian Education and was reelected in 1968 for a term of three years. He is married to the former Annelle McCall of Florence. A son, Alex, age 19, is complet ing his first year at the United States Naval Academy at Annapo lis, Md., and a daughter, Eloise, is completing her junior year of high school. Although the Frasers are ex pected to visit Bristol prior to moving, they will not take up residence in Bristol before June 15. In the meantime, T. M. Divine will continue to function as the Acting President and executive officer of King CoUege. * * * Kiwonis Club Meets Tonight The Clinton Kiwanis Club will meet tonight at 7 p.m. at Mary Musgrove Hotel. Boy Scout Troop 111, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club, will hold a Court of Honor at the meeting. Superintendent R. P. Wilder said adults in the district should contact the local adult education coordinator, J. E. Stockman, for information about locations of lo cal classes for closed-circuit viewing of "TV High School* which begins March 3. Enrollment applications and information about materials may be obtained by writing to "TV High School,* Columbia, S. C. This new educational oppor tunity in South Carolina is a joint presentation of the Office of Adult Education in the State Department of Education and the S. C. Educational Television Net work. It will enable adults to pre pare to earn high school equi valency certificates by watching television at home or in centers provided locally. The potential "student body* consists of about a million per sons in the state aged 18 and over who have never completed high school. Industries throughout the state are responding to the program as a means of upgrading the qua lifications of workers for pro motion and pay increases. Caro lina Eastman’s plant near Co lumbia Is one which is fully spon soring participation by em ployees, and both Fort Jackson and Shaw Air Force Base are ad vocating the program for civilian workers. Four areas of study are in cluded in the televised course — natural sciences, social studies, mathematics and English gram mar.
