B&PW Club Discusses Current World Affairs, Educational Conference 1J Jr | ie-c * * * Coffee Hour Rescheduled The coffee hour to mark the opening of the Clinton Community Concert Association’s mem bership drive for 1969-70 has been re-scheduled for Thursday evening, February 20, at 8 o’clock, in BelkAuditorium. This gathering of workers was post poned from Sunday afternoon due to the weather. The team cap tains urge all workers to attend so that they may receive in structions and workers kits be fore making their calls. Mrs. Alan G. Cook is membership chairman and Mrs. James Shakespeare is co-chairman. The Business and Profession al Woman’s Club meeting was held Feb. 11 at Mary Musgrove Hotel. Miss Winnifred Poole, Pres- dent opened the meeting. Mrs. Mary Beall gave the invocation. Plans were made for the Tri- City meeting on March 11. The Laurens, Greenwood and Clinton Clubs will meet here at Mary Musgrove Hotel. A program on World Affairs was given by Mrs. Wyatt Led ford. She read a paper of con- tempory events on the Middle East, Vietnam War, the Paris Peace talks and the space agen cy* The Nineth S.C. Educational Conference was held in Colum bia on January 25 and 26 at Capstone House on the Univer sity Campus. President, Mrs. Winifred Poole, Mrs. Cornelia Harris, Mrs. Grace Conner, and Mrs. Margaret Lockett attended. They discussed the conference. Dr. Thomas E. Jones, Pres ident of USC gave a cordial welcome. The theme, “We Hold These Truths”, was presented by three outstanding people with a panel discussion. Mr. Thomas A. Murray, Se curity Representative, U.S. A- tomic Evergy Commission was the morning speaker. He stressed the need for all Americans to rededicate themselves to patrio tism and the priviledges of our heritage. “Consider America as a song and let us sing it,” he said. The luncheon speaker, Mrs. Thelma Davis, Griffin, Ga. past president of the Classroom Tea chers, said, “Attitude To Life’ is self evaluation, education and high esteam of our capabilities and self and self.” She emphasized the need for parents and teachers do this for all children. She is employed by Sears, Roebuck and Co. of Laurens. Mr. Armstrong, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Armstrong of the Shiloh Community of Hick ory Tavern, is a graduate of Hick ory Tavern High School. Having completed his military service in the Air Force, he is now employ ed by the Laurens Post Office. Mrs. Nellie Hamm Surratt of Joanna announces the marriage of her daughter, Karen Beth to Christopher Sheehan of Chilli- cothe, Ohio. The bride is also the daughter of the late Jennings Ray Surratt. The wedding was solemnized on January 26 in Columbia. At tendants were Mr. and Mrs. Clark Surratt. Both the bride and groom are graduates of the University of South Carolina. For the present time, they are residing with the parents of the groom, Mr. and Mrs. Sheehan in Chillicothe, Ohio. The program was presented by Mrs. George Taylor in the form of a humorous reading, an ad venture called “Ameis African- us.” It dealt with the adventur er of a slave as he went to bury the silverware for his master, .during the Civil War. The home was decorated with lovely arrangements of rose and pink camilias. A delightful salad course was served. Legion Aux. The monthly meeting of the A- merican Legion Auxiliary which was to be held this week has been rescheduled for next Tues day, February 25 at the home of Mrs. Charles Buice. Casque announce the birth of a daughter, Amelia Matson, on February 16 at Bailey Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Casque is the former Dell Wilder, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Wilder. Mrs. Pitts is the former Anne Digby of Greer. Surprise Party Mrs. Ervin Shook entertained a number of friends at her home on Saturday night. The event was a surprise dinner in honor of Mr. Shook’s birthday. A delicious Italian dinner was served from the dining table which was covered with a red and white checked tablecloth. A basket of flowers centering the table held a colorful eggplant into which skewers of marinated antipasto were placed. Whimsical gag gifts enter tained the guests after dinner, and they enjoyed singing togeth er. Godfreys Entertain General and Mrs. Ansel God frey entertained on Thursday light with a drop-in, honoring the athletic and military departments of Presbyterian College and their wives. Using the color scheme of red and white, Presbyterian College colors, as a motif, an arrange ment of red camellias and blue dutch iris centered the dining table. Other flowers used in arrangements throughout the home were camellias and snap dragons. Mrs. Robert Wysor, Mrs. Marc Weersing and Mrs. Walter John son assisted in serving the party refreshments and pouring coffee. A Thirty-Two Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Mr. Bolt received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Erskine College with a ma jor in Business Administration. He is presently associated with General Electric Gas Turbine Plant in Greenville as Supervi sor Procedures and Office Ser vices. The wedding is planned for May 10, 1969 at New Hope Baptist Church in Cross Anchor. Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. A dutch luncheon will be served at 12 noon. Mrs. R. A.
