BY SALLY SHAW DEAR SALLY: My fiance and I seem to argue, fuss, and fight more and more all the time, and I can’t remember when last we had a really harmonious, peace ful, and enjoyable date together. This wasn’t at all the case be fore we became engaged. We got along fine then. I’m wondering if this is just a typical stormy phase through which all engaged couples go, and if maybe every thing will become adjusted after we’re married. CONCERNED. DEAR CONCERNED: No. this is NOT a “typical" or natural phase of courtship. In fact, what you are experiencing now could well be a preview of your mar riage. If you two find it im possible to get along now, mar riage won’t change things. Bet ter that you break off now. DEAR SALLY: A certain young rnan I like very much has the very exasperating habit of phon ing me at the last minute for dates -- often late in the after noon of the very evening he wants to take me out. This seems to indicate that he regards me as always available and waiting for him --and even tliough I do en joy going out with him, it’s the principle of the thing that keeps bothering me. I have spoken to him about it, but to no avail so far. Any suggestions? LATE DATE. DEAR LATE DATE: You might try this: The next time this young man phones you at the last minute, tell him how sorry you are, but that you’ve already made plans for the evening (even if you haven’t). This Just might stir him to more prompt action in the fu ture. Of course, there is some thing else to consider, too. . . many girls would love to have certain boys call them ANY time, early or late. DEAR SALLY: What do you think the chances are of a happy marriage between a smart girl with a college degree and a fel low like me who didn’t go to col lege? I hold down a very re sponsible position with a good business firm and have encourag ing prospects for advancement, and this lovely girl and I get along fine -- despite the big gap in our educational backgrounds - - but I still keep wondering about it. I’d appreciate your comments on this. INDIANA. DEAR INDIANA: The chances of a happy marriage for you two are as good as those of any other couple, PROVIDED you can over come those apparent feelings of inferiority you now seem to be nursing -- and PROVIDED your girl doesn’t make a big thing out of her educational advantages. If she thinks nothing of this, and if you two are really in love, then that’s all that’s necessary. DEAR SALLY: I was brought up under the belief that if a man thinks enough of a girl he’ll do all the phoning necessary, and that in fact it’s wrong for a girl to bother a man with phone calls. However, does this rule apply when the couple has had a ter rific argument and when the girl knows that, it was all her fault? ings ago between me and a ear- 'THT tain boy I like very much. SHE-—« I LA. DEAR SHEILA: It is Dei wrong for ANYONE, male or male, to phone apologies for a] mistake he knows he is respoo- | sible for. If this boy means as! much to you as you say, dial his number right now and try to patch up that wrong.
