THE CHRONICLE, Clinton, S. C., February 6, 1969—7-B DEAR BUD: Those hint-drop pers have small minds! There’s nothing in the world wrong with a brother and sister’s making a home together. Dear Sally BY SALLY SHAW DEAR SALLY: My fiance keeps after me to dye my graying hair, claiming that I’m much too young at 25 to be going around with gray hair. I, myself, like my hair as it is, dress it attractively, and all my friends and rela tives say it’s very becoming. So, do you think I should abide by my fiance’s wishes? SILVER THREADS. DEAR SILVER THREADS: If you’re happy with your hair as it is now, that should be all there is to the matter. And I just hope you don’t have a fi ance whose love depends upon the color of your hair. DEAR SALLY: I’m a bachelor of 30, and ever since our parents died two years ago my unmar ried sister of 26 and I have been living together in the home they left us. She and I have always gotten along wonderfully, and this has been a very happy set up. However, we have been annoyed from time to time by the uplifted eyebrows of certain people and the hints they drop a- bout the “respectability’’ of our living together as we doj What have you to say about this? BUD. DEAR SALLY: My mother thinks it terrible whenever a boy whom I don’t want to go out with phones me for a date and I tell him, “I’m sorry, but I already have a date for that evening.* She claims it’s inex cusable to lie about it, and that I should be perfectly frank with these boys and tell them the truth, that I don’t care to go out with them. This sounds cruel to me. What do you think? CHICKEN. DEAR CHICKEN: I’m in favor of kindness, too. You could, under these circumstances, and with out being guilty of lying, say, “I’m sorry, but I’ll be busy on that evening. * DEAR SALLY: I’m a working girl of 27, and was recently pro moted to a very responsible po sition in the office of the com pany where I am employed. I am now in charge of 18 other girls in my department, and a number of these girls are older than I am and are showing re sentment over my new authority. They indicate this by doing sloppy work, by tardy arrival at work in the morning, by prolonged visits to the restroom, and many other such things to make my job harder for me. I’ve been re luctant about speaking to them about this for fear of making enemies and creating more in harmony. But still I know I must do something. What? MISS MANAGER. DEAR MISS MANAGER: One of the prices of promotion such as yours is the resentment of the envious ones. But the fact remains that you ARE in charge of these other girls, and I sug gest that you call a meeting at once and explain exactly what is expected of them and what will NOT be tolerated. Be as friend ly in manner about this as you can, but be firm. Then if some of the racalcitrant ones persist in their present tactics, all you can do is discharge them. NOTE TO BRIDE-ELECT: The style of wedding ring is entire ly a matter of personal taste, not of fashion. The wedding ring is supposed to be a symbol, not an ornament. Personally, I like the plain narrow band of gold or platinum. HOW CAN I? BY ANNE ASHLEY Q. How can I remove surface discolorations from my bathtub? A.
