THE CHRONICLE, Clinton, S. C„ January 16, 1969—7-A Coach Robinson: 'Must Work Harder Presbyterian College Basket ball Coach Herb Robinson is look ing for some team consistency as his Blue Hose continue to battle through a tough schedule. After Monday night’s 70-61 loss to Appalachian, Coach Robinson said, “We’re certainly not pleased with losing. We’ve been playing some close ones but that doesn’t count. We just have to work a little harder and we have to get consistent. “We played poorly against Ap palachian. I frankly don’t think they’re that much better but we just couldn’t find the combination to get the job done.” “We have a rough schedule but we’re going to get better.” The Blue Hose played at Wof ford Wednesday night and will be at Mars Hill Saturday night. Next Tuesday, the Hose will host tough Lenoir Rhyne. Presbyterian beat Wofford in an early season meeting but since then the Terriers have added a 6-10 center who did not play in the first game. Mars Hill features graduates from last year’s outstanding Gardner-Webb Junior College team. “They play a fast game,* Coacji Robinson said. George Dickerson, a junior from Spartanburg, was the lead ing scorer for PC Monday night as he hit 18 points, his high to tal for the season, Dave Kerch- ner, a sophomore from Louis ville, Ky., tallied 12 and Doug MacLeod, one of three seniors on the team, hit 11. PC’s leading scorer, Danny Yarborough, a freshman, had a cold night, scor ing only four points. Presbyterian outscored Appal- lachian 41-28 in the second half but a frigid first half was too much to overcome. Appalachian led 42-20 at halftime as the Mountaineers ran off 14 conse cutive points before PC scored its first field goal of the night with 14:40 left in the first half. DRIVING—-Presbyterian College players are shown above driving for baskets against Appalachian Monday night. HOW TO SOLVE GOLF PROBLEMS YMCA Basketball In Full Swing Red Devils Get Win; Woodruff Tonight With its first Eastern Con ference victory tucked away, Clinton High’s Red Devil basket ball team journeys to Woodruff tonight, Thursday, for another conference battle. On Tuesday night, the Red De vils will be at home to Newberry and on Friday, Jan. 24, will visit Lower Richland. Clinton hiked its overall re cord to 3-4 last Friday by lacing Union 62-40 in a conference game at Clinton. The win gave the Red Devils a 1-2 mark in the confer ence. Junior Buzzy Tedards paced the Clinton scoring attack with -26 points. Senior Chris Adair pumped in 14 points. All of the Clinton players got into the scor ing column as Coach Tommy Sub- lett used his reserves freely. At halftime, Clinton was coast ing on a 31-16 margin. The Union junior varsity won the preliminary 52-30. On a par-3, 150-yard hole, the average golfer would probably use about a 6-iron However, when a brisk wind is at the golfer's back, the better choice might be a 7 or 8-iron Tail wind has a tendency to knock the ball down and reduce its backspm. If you start too low, you may not carry any hazards guarding the green and will probably get too much run on the ball (dotted line). By playing the shot high in the air (solid line) you will benefit from the carrying power of the tail wind and, at the same time, compensate for lost height. The ball should carry just onto the front edge ot the green. Lacking much backspm, it will run far enough to reach the pm.
