Petty of Kenner, La., arrived on Tuesday, Dec. 17 to spend two weeks with relatives including Mrs. Gloria McCra- vey and Lisa, Alan Petty, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Petty of Jo anna and Mr. and Mrs. Giles Law- son and family in Clinton. Also while here he, Mrs. McCravey and Lisa and Alan will spend a few days in Alpine, N.C. with Mrs. Alice Petty, Miss Elwine Boyce of Wood- bridge, Va., is spending the holi days with her parents Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Boyce. They spentSun- day afternoon and Monday inH ic- kory, N.C. with Mr. and Mrs. James Bowman, and also spent some time with Fred Buff in Salisbury. They plan to spend Christmas Eve in Chester with Mr. and Mrs. Guy Misenheimer. Roger Banks, student in Tex tile Management at Greenville Tec will have the holidays off, returning to classes on Jan. 2. Mrs. Caludine Morgan spent Sunday in Whitmire with Mr. and Mrs. Ellic Prince. BANKS COMPLETES TRAINING Pvt. Michael Banks completed his nine weeks training at Parris Island on Monday, Dec. 16. Ids parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Banks, Roger and Tommy were there for the “Final Review." Miss Nan Atkins of Joanna and Miss Lucy Dean of Clinton ac companied them. Pvt. Banks arrived home on the 18th for the holidays. He will report to Camp Lejune, N.C. on Jan. 5. Holiday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Farmer are Capt. andMrs. Ronald Corley and Amy andScott of New River Marine base in Jacksonville, N.C., and Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Farmer, Terrieand Todd of Easley. Y.F. and the Jr. High Sunday School Class of the Epsworth Methodist were enter tained with a Christmas party on Tuesday at the Educational building. The group enjoyed games and also they exchanged gifts. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Naomi Wier. BIRTHDAY PARTY Becky Simmons who is seven years old was given a birthday party on Friday the 13th at her home on Laurens street. She and twenty-two guests enjoyed games to suit the occasion. Before open ing her many nice gifts, the birth day cake, decorated in red and white, was cut and served with ice cream, candy and colddr inks. The honoree's mother, Mrs. Bobby Simmons, and Mrs. Brent Holsonback were hosts for the occasion. CHRISTMAS PARTIES On Dec. 10 the Sunbeams of the 1st Baptist Church held their Christmas party. The group en joyed singing carols. Refresh ments were served by Mrs. Kath leen Holsonback, and Mrs. Judy Simmons. The R.A. had a party on the following night, Wednesday. They played games and exchanged gifts. Everyone enjoyed the de licious refreshments. Assisting with the party were Otis Whel- chel, Cecil I arris and Brent Holsonback. KINDERGARTEN PARTY The children had decorated the room at the Baptist Educational building for the Christmas sea son, and for the party in which parents were invited to attend. Everyone enjoyed the get-to gether. Delicious refreshments were served by Mrs. Wayne Mur phy and Mrs. Cyril Abrams. Sherrill Wins Players Oscar As Best Actor The Henry Laurens Players formerly The Laurens Com munity Little Theatre presented its annual awards Dec. 14. The Oscar for Best Actor was a- warded to Frank Sherrill for his leading roles as Paul Bratter in “Barefoot In The Park and A lien Baker in "Come Blow Your Horn". The Best Actress award was given to Betty Jean Shook f«>r her first performance with The Hen ry Laurens Players in the role of Mrs. Baker in "Come Blow Ynur Horn 1 '. The Best Supporting Actress award was won by Jean Harris of Laurens who played the part i if Peggy in "Come Blow Your Horn' 1 . This was Jean Harris first appearance with the Henry Laurens Players. Best Support ing Actor award was won by Bob Hanson for his role of the tele phone man in "Barefoot In The Park*. The Presidents Award is pre sented annually to the person who helped the President most during the year was awarded to Harriette Wassung who now lives in Torringbrn, Connecticut.
