Coroner's Jury
Says Girl's
Death Accidental
A Laurens County coroner's
jury decided Thursday night that
Betty Patterson, 17-year-old girl
from Rt. 1., Clinton, “carrm to
her death by mischance and acci
dent" in a Nov. 26 wreck on S.C.
highway 72.
She was a passenger in an auto
mobile that collided with a truck
loaded with pulpwood about four
miles south of Clinton.
Driver of the car was identi
fied as Wanda Attaway, 16, of
Rt. 1, Clinton.
State highway Patrolman Le-
Roy Sorrow testified that accord
ing to his investigation when
Miss Attaway applied brakes
after a car in front of her slowed,
the right rear wheel on her car
locked, pulling it to one side.
The car spun around in the road
and was hit by the truck, he added.
Similar testimony was given by
Miss Attaway, who said the four
girls in the car were >-n their way
home from school.
