C., December 19, 1968—17 YATES COTTAGE — The above building was just recently completed on the Thornwell campus and design ed for the Home Economics Depart ment together with the Kindergarten program, a dual purpose building. This is a gift of the Yates Founda tion of Greenville, in memory of Charles H. Yates (October 17, 1867- June 15, 1941) a friend to youth. $25,000 was given by this foundation toward the erection of this well-ap pointed structure. SARAH SEGARS Mrs. W. F. Mitchell enter tained her circle of Liberty Springs Presbyterian Church on Monday evening, Dec. 9. R. B. Segars was a recent business visitor in Charlotte, N.C. Mrs. 1 . M. Turner has re turned home from Self Memor ial Hospital. Mrs. R. W. Griffin left on Tuesday for Atlanta to spend Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Louett and family. Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Boazman have had as recent out of town visitors Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Watkins of Newberry, Mr. and Mrs. I. Q. Watkins of Chap pells and Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Gregory of Greenwood. Mr. Tillman Morse, who has been quite ill in Bailey Memor ial Hospital for sometime, is slightly improved. Mrs. J. H. Coleman and Mrs. M. C. Mrs. Roily Bannister spent several days last week with Mr. and Mrs. “Preacher" Clary in Greenville. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Rasor of Columbia visited Mr. and Mrs. Roy Adams and Miss Zelle Crisp Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Gray 1 ipp of Gray Court spent Sunday after noon with Mrs. Blanche Crisp. Miss Zelle Crisp and Miss Eleanor Dial spent Thursday in Columbia. Master Sgt Burrell Young has been spending some time with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Frank Young before resuming duties with the ROTC at the Univer sity of Mississippi. Mr. and Mrs. Luther Baker and Angelia of Columbia spent the weekend at their home. was that of Dr. and Mrs. W. P. Turner. Mr. E. 0. Barnett has been a patient in Laurens District Hospital but has returned home. Mrs. J. H. Shealy, whoresided for a number of years in Cross Hill passed away on December 9 at a Laurens nursing home. Mr. Shealy is also a patient at the home. Many friends from Cross Hill attended the funeral at the Waterloo Methodist Church on Wednesday. G. E. Boazman was admitted to Self Memorial Hospital for treatment on Sunday. Bcriley Foundation Gives $5,000 To Thornwell The Bailey Foundation of Clin ton recently gave $5,000 to Thornwell Orphanage designated for use in the M. S. Bailey Print Shop located on the Thornwell Campus. This gift will be used as a be ginning amount for the purchase of an off-set press to enhance the value and efficiency of the print shop. The Board of Trustees of Thornwell are deeply grateful to the M. S. Bailey Foundation for this substantial gift. Clinton Junior High News BY VHVIAN DAVIS On November 27 there was quite a disturbance at school. Miss Delila Edenfield celebrat ed her 22nd birthday. First per iod math was ended when the se cret got out. Miss Edenfield is a graduate of Meridith College in Raleigh, N.C. Even though she is the school's youngest teacher, she has taught before. After cor recting a mass of papers, she likes to sit down and knit. Happy belated birthday, Miss Edenfield! Recently Mrs. Beulah Tinsley, R.N., showed a film to the school. Afterwards, she conducted a question and answer period about the movie. Everyone appreciates her interest in us and the work she has done with the schools in the area. The students' classes were made more cheerful by lovely Christmas sprays on the class room doors. These combinations of cedar and red berries topped with red bows were made and pre sented by the Student Council. On December 13 a group of Whitten Village students gave a wonderful program. Mr. Joe Shay played the piano in a style never before displayed at Junior High. A group of boys sang several selections followed by a few num bers by their band. Everyone truly enjoyed this program. Every year, Mrs. Bobbie Wag ner, chorus director, is incharge of a Christmas presentation. This time, its' bound to be better than ever! She has planned for skits, poems, and Scripture to be mingled in with many lovely Christmas carols. The chorus has worked very hard for this occasion and they hope many visitors come. During this season, lots of stu dents will be visiting. Linda Wid- mer plans to visit friends in Connecticut, while Martha Gab- bert will be going to Minneso ta and Susan Cason hopes to make it to North Carolina. To “ring in the new' Kathy 1 ay plans to visit Charleston for New Year 's Day. The student librarians held a meeting December 11. Molly Glo ver, president, called the meet ing to order. Fran Hogan then read the minutes. The business consisted of forming a bulliten board committee. Mandy Crisp, Mary Edith Fullmer, and Maxine Duncan will be on this com- mitte for January. The program was on Christmas in England by Kathy Sanders, in France by Di anne Edmunds, and in Denmark by Mary Lynn McCrary. Stirkey Participates In Fleet Exercise Aviation Structural Mechanic Second Class Levester Stirkey, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. James C. Sturkey St. of 230 S. Bell St., and husband of the former Miss Helen S. Floyd of 814 N. Broad St., all of Clinton par ticipated in operation “Beef Trust” with Fighter Squadron- 114 off the coast of Southern California.
