How Can I? By ANNE ASHLEY Q. How can I effect a good repair on the cloth of a pool table which has become worn on the cushions? A. You can repair this with ad hesive tape in almost invisible style. First cut the tape to size, then work it under the tear in the cloth with the adhesive side towards the cloth. Next, care fully pull the torn edges together, then press them firmly against the tape. Q. How alxiut the cleaning f piano and organ keys 0 A. For this chore, a good clean ing wax is preferable to soap or detergent, liecause it elimi nates --the --danger of too much water being used, causing wood to swell and warp. Q. How can I minimize ttie us ual waste incurred when peel ing potatoes? Dear Sally BY SALLY SHAW DEAR SALLY: Several months ago, after eight years of lonely widowhood, I married a widower, and ours has been a very happy life, ideal for two persons of our I age -- the early fifties. We both I are comfortably fixed financially. |Now, however, his only child, a , married daughter, has raised a cloud over my happiness. She told I me that when her father dies, 'there will be no room for argu- iment among relatives and survi- Ivors, because she is the sole iheir to his estate. I had never ?ven thought of such eventuality, ‘but I must confess her attitude makes me think a lot less of her, 'and I just hope the tense feel ing between us doesn't create the same sort of tenseness between . her father and me. I’d appre- iciate your advise. DISTURBED. DEAR DISTURBED: Say no thing to your husband about his daughter’s uncalled-for re marks. This WOULD create more “Tenseness.” I do hope, however, that long before now you and your husband have had a discussion, with the help of an attorney, re garding your respective wills. If you haven’t, your “house” is “not in good order.” DEAR SALLY: What can I do with a husband who has the habit of exaggerating every story he tells to friends? Seems every thing he tells has to be blown up to the bursting point. A new car he paid $3500 for cost him $4500 when he talks about it in com pany, if he has netted $3,000 on a business deal, the figure be comes $7,000, and if he con tacted a half-dozen prospective clients during a business trip, the number zooms to fifteen in his later accounts. Why does he have to exaggerate this way, and how can I cure him 0 In every other way he’s a fine and in telligent man. WISCONSIN WIFE. Allen Simmons who recently joined the Navy Air Corps is in Jacksonville, Fla. DEAR WISCONSIN: Some peo ple labor under the impression that in order to impress others they must blow up their stories . . .this often springs from an inner feeling of insecurity or even inferiority. What they fail to rea lize is that others usually get wise, and then they are skepti cal of everyting the person says, even when it happens to tie the unvarnished truth. Talk this over with your husband, and if he's the fine and intelligent man you say he is, he’ll get the point. DEAR SALLY: I’m a young man of 22, and all tangled up in a big fat problem! A little over a year ago I was engaged to a beau tiful girl of 18, but after five months we split. Now I'm engaged to another girl, and my first fi ancee is engaged to another fel low. This afternoon I ran into her on the street, we stopped in at a snack shop for coffee, and dur ing the conversation discovered we are both still deeply in love with each other. Now how do we go about straightening out this mess we’re in, especially with the two persons we’re now engaged to? ALL MIXED UP. DEAR ALL MIXED UP: It’s only too apparent that neither you nor this girl is mature enough to realize the importance of an en gagement promise and its vow of “eternal devotion.” My sug gestion is that you both break your present engagements immediate ly and REMAIN “unengaged” until you both “grow up.” NOTE TO SENIOR: According to custom or tradition, a class ring is usually worn on the third finger of the right hand. LIGHTED CANDLE The lighted candle adds a spe cial festive touch to the Christ as season but be extremely care ful in placing candles around the house, advises Liberty Mutual In surance Companies. Candles placed too near paper decora tions, Christmas card displays, or the boughs of the tree can ignite trouble. NOW OPEN!
