This year women in the United States will purchase an average ol If. 5 pairs 'of nylotf stock ings, as compared to 11.8 pairs in I960. The reason is fashion. A few years ago it was Impos sible to produce patterned stock ings: on seamless machines. Now it’s taken for granted. Workman were entertained in honor of their 50th wedding anni versary. Hosts and hostesses were their children, Mr. and Mrs. Dillard Boland, Mr. and Mrs. Ace C. Workman, Jr., and Mrs. Barbara W. Hellams, all of Clinton. Guests called between the hours of 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Hellams on Ce dar Street to honor the couple. A gold color scheme was used in decoration throughout the house. The refreshment table was centered with a golden anniver- ary : cake surrounded by minia ture mums and flanked on either side with yellow candles. Yellow glads and chrysanthemums were also used in decoration. Refresh ments of punch, cake, cheese bis- buKs, mints, and other dainties were served. Mrs. William Hat- ton, Mrs. Joe Holland, and Mrs. Ervin Shook assisted the hosts and hostessed in the courtesies of entertaining. Among the guests were the grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. Workman: Ace C. Workman, HI, Hepry Workman, Dillard Boland, Jr«, Barbara Hazel Boland, Geor- giana Hellams, and Jodi Hellams. The Rev. William Hicks was assisted by the Rev. Orion Davis Jr. in the cere mony at 7 p.m. Mr. Face is employed by State Farm Mutual Auto Insurance Company in Columbia. He is a 1968 graduate of^ffife University of South Carolina, where be re ceived an A.B. degree in psy chology and held membership in Sigma Nu social fraternity. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Mar ion Edwin Face of 408 N. Tren- holm Road, Columbia. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Willie Hance Finley of Old Milton Road, Mountville, and the kte Robert Shouse of Winston- Salem, N.C. She is a nursing, student at the University ofSouth Carolina. Miss Lynn Shouse of Mouat- vllle, sister of the bride, was ■aid el honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Fenny Prout of Greenville, Miss Margaret Miller of Lan caster, Miss Nancy Hancock at Most Pleasant and Miss Linda of Holly Hill. Willie Hance Finley of Mount ville gave his step-daughter in marriage. John Face of Colum bia, brother of the groom, was best man. Ushering were Joe Shell Johnson, Robert Hancock, William Sirmon Jr. and Robert Johnston, all of Columbia. Mrs. Forrest Jones provided organ music. Guests were re ceived in the parish house. The bride’s modified tent gown of delustered satin was accented with lace motifs which were em broidered with seed pearls. She wore a cameo lavaliere worn by her mother and grandmother at their weddings. The leaf green chiffon dresses worn by the bridal attendants featured blue velvet ribbons in terlacing green lace trim on the sleeves and stand-up collars. Blue velvet buttons fastened the beck yokes above gathered chif fon panels. Miss Ledbetter graduated from Spartanburg High School and completed two years at Presby terian College. She is employed si Security Finance Company. Lieutenant Raines was reared at Thornwell Orphanage, Clinton. He is a graduate of Tbornwell High School and Presbyterian College. He is presently stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky but will be transferred to Fort McClellan, Ala. alter Nov. 29. Miss Davis Becomes Bride of Capt. Smith CORLEY Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bruce Corley announce the birth of their daughter, Stephanie Lynn, born Nov. 14 at Providence Hospital, Columbia. Mrs. Corley is the former Miss Linda White, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. James R. White of Greensboro, N.C. Miss Mary Belle Davis became the bride of Capt Abney Alexan der Smith, Jr. of Ft Jackson Saturday at 5 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Clinton. A reception in the church parlor followed the service, which Rev. Alfred Lyon Bixler and Dr. Wil liam Redd Turner conducted. The bride is a daughter of Mrs. Lawrence Fuller Davis of Old Milton Road and the late Mr. Davis. She completed the sopho more year at Winthrop College. Captain Smith, a graduate of the United States Military Aca demy, has served in Vietnam. He is the son of State Represen tative and Mrs. Abney Alexander Smith of 407 Old Park Road, North Charleston. Given in marriage by Harold Flemimg Harris, Jr., of Sulli van’s Island, her brother-in- law, the bride wore a gown of peau de sole designed with a fitted bodice. The scoop neckline, was surrounded by ale neon lace re-wnbroidered with pearls. Garlands of lace were scattered over the controlled front A cha pel hmte formed below a tailor ed bow of peau de sole. Her veil was a waist lenght maatilla of alencon lace re-embroidered with pearls. Her bridal flowers was an old-fashioned nosegay of roses. The matron of honor, sister of the bride, Mrs. Harold Fleming Harris of Sullivan’s Island, wore cordial taffeta. Empire gown with a back fullness. She carried a nosegay of mixed flowers. Bridewmaids were Miss Mar tha Louise Crawford of Joanna, Miss Harriett Bruce Gordon of Decatur, Ga., Miss Irene Hen derson, Miss Linda Kay Young, Miss Margaret Carol Young an Miss Dorothy Lilliah Thackston of Clinton. Abney Alexander Smith, Jr., bride-elect and groom-elect of November 16, were entertained with a party following rehearsal for their wedding on Friday even ing, November 15. Host and hostess were Mr. and Mrs. Abney Alexander Smith, parents of the groom-elect Guests were invited to the Wil son Home on Ansel Drive at 8:00 p.m. Dinner was served buffet style. Centering the serving table was an arrangement of pink carna tions and white chrysanthemums and glads. Guests found their places at individual tables for four in the living-room, den, and on the inside patio. Small nose gays of pink and white centered each table. Guests included the members of the wedding party. Mr. and Mrs. James Cuttino of Sumter and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Black of Beaufort were also guests. BACHELOR’S DINNER On Saturday, November .16, at 11:30 a.m. Capt Abney Alexander Smith, Jr. entertained the groomsmen attending him in his wedding with a Bachelor’s Din ner. Places were set for twelve in the Dining Room at Blazer’s Restaurant on Lake Greenwood. A seafood platter was enjoyed.
