Clinton, plagued by inexperience and injuries, will take a 2-8 re cord to Woodruff. The Wolverines feature a vet eran team which has both size and talent. Leading the Woodruff attack is quarterback Deedie Dunaway, a 195-pound senior. Other Wolverine stars are full back Nate Glenn, 178-pound sen ior; guard Danny Phillips, 175- pound guard; and Greg Anderson, 195-pound end. Clinton dropped its eighth de cision of the season last Friday, losing 35-7 to Palmetto inWil- liamston. Trailing 14-0 in the second quarter, Clinton drove for its touchdown which Bob Keller scored from the two. Fullback Keller sparked the drive with a 30-yard run. Palmetto scored inevery quar ter in running its record to 8-2 for the season. * * * Ford Faces Heath Springs Here Tonight Ford High School of Laurens takes on Heath Springs tonight, Thursday, on the Clinton High School football field in a Class A state playoff game. Thornwell CoaMi BenCrabtree said, “Cowpens just hadtoomuch size for us. Ane one of their backs has to lie "ne of the better backs in the state." Cowpens Halfback Earl Wilson scored three touchdowns on runs of 1, 7 and 12 yards. Thorn- well’s lone touchdown came on a 47-yard pass from KanadaRoach to Craig Brock. Thornwell finished the season in a three-way tie for second Finishes Record place in Conference 1A. Ford, despite a loss to Thornwell, won the conference championship. Thornwell tied for second with Jonesville and Hickory Tavern. Crabtree said, ‘T was pleased with the season. I believe the at titude "f the boys was as good as we’ve ever had since I’ve been here. They were most coopera tive and eager to improve.” Although Thornwell will lose seven seniors, four starting line men and two starting backs will return, along with several other players who have considerable experience. Thornwell IVs Top Kid Devils The Clinton Junior High foot ball team will close its sea son tonight at 6 p.m. in Union. The Kid Devils have a 1-5 record after losing 19-7 last week to the Thornwell Junior Varsity. Thornwell opened the scoring in the first quarter when Frank Arata scored on an end-amund play which went for 45 yards and a touchdown. David Dennis made the extra point. In the second quarter, Robert Thompson, Thornwell halfback, raced 40 yards around end for a touchdown but the play was nullified by a penalty. Later in the quarter, halfback Tommy Wallin galloped 35 yards to score for Thornwell and the halftime score was 13-0 in Thornwell’s favor. Early in the third quarter, A- rata scored on a short end run, making the score 19-0. Late in the gam ?, Clinton drove the ball down field and scored on an 18-yard pass from Barry Sanders to Moose Prater with four seconds remaining in the game. Butch Brewington ran the extra point. Clinton CoachHackPrater said linebacker Terry Heaton and middle guard Joe Spillers played well on defense.
