Benson, left, recently was promoted to Superin tendent of Thrust Bearing-Thrust Race and Heavy Duty product lines with The Torrington Co. Robert D. Bagwell, right, was promoted to Chief Methods Engineer, succeeding Benson. Benson joined the Torrington Company as Proj ect Engineer upon graduation from the Univer sity of South Carolina. He and Mrs. Benson and their three children reside at Teakewood Drive, Route 3, Clinton. Bagwell is a graduate of Clemson University and joined The Torrington Company as a Project Engineer. He and Mrs. Bagwell and their four children reside at 130 Irbv Avenue in Laurens. ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ American Smiles Impress Visitor “You meet smiles on the street everywhere,” said MissKjer- stein Sned when asked how she liked America. Miss Sned, who is from Fin land, is spending a year in Ameri ca with her aunt and uncle Mr, and Mrs. Earnest G. Johnson. The reason she came to America is to complete a requirement for her education and to visit. MissSned, who hopes to be a designer, has to work one year in a textile or gar ment factory before starting her last phase of college work. In comparing America with Finland, she is very much im pressed with the friendly attitude of the people. She says in Fin land people think “you’re crazy if you smile at each other on the street.” Also she is im pressed by the many varieties of canned foods available to the News of Joanna By MRS. W. J. P. Dailey. ■■i VISIT SICK Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Brazel visited Tom Furr at the Vet erans hospital in Columbia on Sunday afternoon. Mrs. W. E. Boyde visited him on Saturday. Friends will be interested to know Homer Jacks who has been in the Greenville General Hospi tal for 3 months has been trans ferred to Bailey Memorial Hos pital. Guests last weekend of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Johnson, Sr. were Mr. and Mrs. Herman Evans and Pam of Cheraw. Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Shealy, Tony and Ronnie of Lexington are spending some time here with Mr. and Mrs. Irby Ginn. Mrs. Jackie Rabm, Rene and Carmen of Johnson City enjoyed a weeks vacation with Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Kitchens. Mr. Rabon joined them for the weekend. GUESTS FROM WEST VIRGINIA Mrs. Estus Vaughan, and Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy McDougal and children of Rachael, W. Va. spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Vaughan. ON LEAVE S/Sgt. W'allace Sanford, Mrs. Sanford and children who were at Andrews A. F. Base arrived here on Friday. After his 30-day leave here with Mr. and Mrs. Hayward Lever and Vic Sanford and other friends and relatives, he will report to a base in Fla. Mrs. Sanford and children will remain in Joanna and make their home at 506 Milton Road. HOME FROM KOREA Sp-4 Charles D. Rowe returned from Korea on June 20 and will spend a 30-day leave with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rowe, Mr. and Mrs. John Brewington. Following his leave he will report to Ft. Bragg, N. C. Mrs. Rowe and their son Lavon, will accompany him there. Mrs. C. R. Tompkins, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Hueble, Mrs. Eliza beth Taylor and Mrs. Cancie Arnold were in Columbia onJune 17, 18, and 19 to attend the 61st G rand C hapte r S e s si on of E a ste r n Star.
