Clinton played at Newberry Wednesday night and will lie host to Ware Shoals tonight, Thurs day. On Friday, Clinton goes to Newberry and will be host to Greenwood Friday. On Tuesday, Clinton plays at Ware Shoals. The league plays an 18-game schedule. Concerning Tuesday night’s loss to Ware Shoals, Coach Sam Owens said, “We hit the ball real well but we were wild on defense. Their lead-off batter got on base every inning and they stole bases. Wildness put some of the runners on base and we made some other errors which moved them around." Harness Races At Fountain Inn On July 4th there will be har ness racing at the FairviewStock Show Grounds located 5 miles west of Fountain Inn. There will be 8 heats of racing trotters and pacers. I I BET YOU DIDN'T KNOW By Tom Plaxico Did you know that only nee in history has any pro olfer ever won the very rst tournament in which e played as a pro? . . . he only man to accom- lish this was Marty leckman . . . Of 11 the men who’ve been ig league baseball man gers since 1900, Dick Wil- ams, who led the Red ox to the 1967 pennant, fas the very first pen- ant - winning manager fhose last name started fith the letter “W”! . . . fou’d think in all the ears since 1900, and with ill the different men k'ho’ve managed pennant dinners, there would have >een more than one whose ast name started with W”, but, oddly, Williams yas the first. • * • Here’s a strange fact ibout a man named Bobo lolloman ... You may lave heard the name—he > i t c h e d briefly in the American League in 1953 . . In his short major eague career, he pitched just one complete game And that one complete game was a no-hitter! . . . But, after hurling his no- litter, he never again jitched nine innings in any sig league contest! • • • W. S. “Shorty” Horne, low a familiar face at our Post Office, was a Blue [Jose star a few years lack. Even though he was the lightest lineman on the squad, he played center regularly and was Captain if the Blue Hose squad of 1935. He was also the hot test second baseman you ever saw in baseball. After college he played semi-pro baseball, probably would have gone to the majors if he hadn’t been called to Army active duty in IML Soon after reading this, many of you will be going on vacation. Please re member it will be far bet ter to be a few minutes late down here than a few years early up there. DRIVE SAFELY! Ptaxko Chevrolet . 400 WEST MAIN J Tom Elrod, with a triple and two singles, led Clinton’s 11-hit attack. Steve Owens had a double and a triple. Clinton batters pounded out five doubles and two triples but the batting barrage wasn’t enough. Day Camp Is Held At YMCA BY JOHN BINGHAM YMCA Director The YMCA Boys Day Camp was the main attraction at the YMCA last week when forty-four boys attended the Camp Busy Bee Prn- gram. The camp, which had been regularly scheduled for two one- week sessions, did not receive the 60 campers per week that was expected. Only one week was run this season. Only six boys were signed up for the second week and of these, four entered the camp for the first week. I am sure that with the outstanding program given to the campers this year and the fun and bene fits received by the boys who participated this program will become an annual event that will find a much larger attendance. Figures have been compiled for the first week of swimming at the YMCA pools. The first week showed 2,871 using the pools for swim instruction and recreation al swimming. Some 30 people have completed their instruction course in Fish, Flying Fish, and the Shark Club to date. YOUTH BASEBALL Monday - Small Fry, S. W. 0, S. E. 9; N. w. 6, Five Points 1; Little League, S.
