FERNELL Your Telephone Manager DDD IS THE DIFFERENCE What’s the difference between a minute and half a minute? What’s the difference between 60c and $1.00? As far as the telephone is concerned, that difference is Direct-Distance-Dialing. You can save time and money by using DDD and the low station-to-station rate that goes with it. Just think, tonight, after 7:00 p.m. (or all day Saturdays and Sundays) you can pick up your phone, start dialing and be talking to some one in San Francisco within 25 or so seconds. Even better, you pay only $1.00 for the first three minutes. You can save up to 40 per cent any time of the day or night when you use DDD and the station-to-station rate, and the service is the fastest in the world. Long distance calling is one of the few things you can buy that costs you less as it im proves. We at the telephone company hope you’ll take advantage of it often. FORGET TELEPHONES, FOR THE MOMENT. How else does the phone company make life a little nicer? Well, here’s just one example, out of many. Thirty-nine years ago this month, on June 27, 192'9, color television was demonstrat ed publiclji.fior the first time.;-; The demonstra tion took place at—Bell Telephone Laborato ries. The Bell System is proud to have had a part in the continuing advances of our electron ic age. TELEPHONE OPERA TORS, LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE, HAVE THEIR BAD DAYS. One operator, now a veteran, tells of an inci dent a few years ago when she was new on the job, a bit flustered, and nervous about doing the right thing. Her party was calling from a pay phone and had asked her to let him know when the initial three min utes were up. And so, at the end of exactly three minutes, she came on the line—and inton ed, “Sir, your time has come!” TELEPHONE FILM Tonight (Thursday) the Lydia Woman’s Club will meet at the Lydia Community Building for their regular meeting.
