Sexton leaves June 4 for Vietnam on the USS Intrepid. He is a pilot in the U.S. Navy. While here, Lt. and Mrs. Sexton joined Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sexton in attending the graduation -of Miss Dianne Sexton fromWin- throp College in Rock Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Riser visi- >d Mrs. Fannie Riser in Bates- liurg on Saturday afternoon. Their supper guests onSunday were Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Riser, Faith and ; Hope of Greenville. Returning on Monday after en joying a week at Myrtle Beach were Lynn Riser of Joanna, Gail Caughman, Libby Bishop, and Jean Foster of Clinton. Mrs. Marlene DeBerry and children of Trenton, Mo., arrived last week to spend sometime with Mrs. Ruth Thomas and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. James Brown and Debbie spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Mac Outz in Charleston and at Folly Beach. ATTEND SINGING Mrs. Hattie Martin and Mrs. W. J. Hogan were among the large group to attend the singing held at the Bonds Crossroads Pena- costal Holiness Church on Sun day afterni’un, which was a climax of their Homecoming service. Among the out of town group to sing were the Treble-Aires of Atlanta and the Gospel-A ires of Chester. Pastor of the church is Rev. Lester Braswell. ATTENDS WEDDING Terry Martin completed his first year at Elim Bible Insti tute on May 26. He and his friend, Jamie Jenkins spent a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Martin. On Saturday, June 1st they were inTalledegah, Ala., to attend the wedding of Mike Humphries. Terry was an usher. Following the ceremony he and Jamie motored to the latter’s home in Mobile for a few days vacation. BIRTHS BROWN Mr. and Mrs. Maxie Brown of Rock Hill announce the birth of twin sons, Robert Ligon and Richard Lee, on Saturday, June 1st. She is the former Claudia Ligon of Rock Hill. BROUTON Mr. and Mrs. Gary Brouton of Washington, D. C. announce the birth of a daughter, Marcie Jane on April 9. Mrs. Brouton is the former Brenda Simpson of At lanta. She is the great grand daughter of Mrs. L. L. Simpson of Joanna. HOLT E-5 and Mrs. Steve Holt of Alameda, California announce the birth of a son on Wednesday May 29. She is the former Miss Ermmie McCall of Clinton. WOMANS CLUB The Joanna Womans Club will meet tonight (Thursday) June 6 at the home of Mrs. Lewis Thomp son at 512 Blalock Dr. The meet ing will start at 7:30. A covered dish supper will be enjoyed by ail ana members will reveal their Joanna sisters. BIRTHDAY DINNER On Sunday, May 26 Mrs. Willie Longshore was surprised with a birthday dinner at her horned Sumter Street. Enjoying the occa* sion with her were her husband, Frank and two daughters, Gloria and Sandra, and also, Mr. and Mrs. John Smith, and Mr. and Mrs. 0. J. Dillon of Clinton, Mr. and Mrs. David Pulley of Simpsonville, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Julian, John Julian, and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gilleland of Greenville and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sexton and Dianne of Joanna. Mrs. Longshore was remembered with several nice gifts. CHURCH NEWS On Monday morning June 10th the Women of the First Pres byterian Church will meet with Mrs. James Dominich at 10 a.m. for their regular monthly meet ing. BIBLE SCHOOL The First Presbyterian Church will join Little River Dominick Presbyterian Church, in holding a weeks vacation Bible school beginning Monday, June 10th from 9 till 11:30 a.m. The school will be held at the latter church. It will include preschoolers age 3 through those who have complete the 8th grade. Rev. LeonJeffords invites all who can to attend and to be at the church by 9 o’clock and transportation will be fur nished. Allie Mae Puckett, Betty Jean Sanford, and Evie Johnson will celebrate birthdays on June 9. Birthday greetings go to Emory Moore and Eugenia Johnson on June 10. On June 11 Cindy Prater and Wayne Boland will celebrate a birthday and Mr. and Mrs. Car- son Nabors will observe a wedding anniversary. The South Carolina Public Ser vice Commission has received from Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company new filings of its tariffs to effect changes in certain of its nonrecurring charges for installations, moves and changes. The Company’s notice informs the Commission that there have been no changes in its charges for this particular type service since October, 1956, and that be cause of increased labor, material, and other costs, said charges are inadequate and out of proportion to the expenses in curred by the Company in per forming there services. At the same time, tariffs were filed for eliminating the offering of eight-party service in all ex changes inSouth Carolina, as well as proposed plans for the up- grading of all present eight-p;u t . service.
