Courthouse Referendum
Set In General Election
• ncrMBlA — The Laurens County delegation
i;. * - ••.'? the General F.leetion as the date for a ref-
i i'. nuLii on tin* courthouse, according to Sen. Wil
liam ('. 1 Jobhins.
Voters will be asked to vote whether they want
fo .mid a county courthouse on a new location or
to renovate the present one.
( ounty voters defeated last year a proposal to
build a new courthouse.
Rep. David S. Taylor says that, according to
ihe Constitution, the question must be submitted
to the voters.
Both he and Rep. W. Paul Culbertson favor ask
ing the voters to choose from the alternatives of
renovating the present structure at “x” dollars or
1 mil ding a new one at “x” dollars.
Rep. Taylor believes it will probably cost more
to renovate.
