-c k T How Can I? By ANNE ASHLEY . Q. HoW can I remove yel lowed perspiration stains from whit# washable mater ials? . A. Try bleaching these out in. the sun after the usual laundering. If a stain should persist, sponge with hydro gen peroxide plus sodium perborate (oi>e teaspoon to one pint of peroxide). Or, dip the stain into a solution made by adding two teaspoons of sodium hydrosulfite tQ one pint of water. Rinse promptly and thoroughly. Q. How can I remedy the shower head in my bath room, which is clogged with lime and mineral deposits? A. Try boiling the shower head in a solution of one quart of water and one-half cup of vinegar. About fifteen minutes of this treatment should make the shower head work like new Q. My needle always sticks when sewing on plastic ma terials. How can I avoid this? A. By rubbing talcum pow der on your needle. Q. Have you any suggest ions on the successful wash ing of permanently pleated skirts? A. When washing them, gather the pleats together carefully and slip a clean, old nylon stocking down over the skirts before hanging it up to dry. In this way, the pleats will dry close together and will be firm and neat looking. Q. How can I remedy sugar that has become hard and lumpy? A. By putting it into a cov ered container and placing in the refrigerator for a few days. This will usually soften it. I miss that fresh, clean, outdoor aroma in the laundry I have dried in my clothes dryer. Is there anything I can do about this? A. If you’ll put your bas- ketfull of wash outdoors for an hour or so before ironing — summer and winter — you’ll achieve that familiar smell of yesteryear. Q. How can I remove blood from a cushion or other hard- to-clean object? A. Cover immediately with a paste of cornstarch and water, rubbing it on, then putting the cushion in the sun to dry. The sun draws the blood out into the cornstarch. Brush off the dry cornstarch, and if the spot is not com pletely gone, repeat the rou tine. Q. How can I keep paint brushes soft? A. After using a paint or varnish brush, clean it thoroughly with .naphtha. Then rub with petroleum jel ly and put away free from dust. v Q. How can I improve the looks of powdered sugar cake icings. * - v A. Add a few^drops of lem on juice. This makes the ic ing very white. Q. How can I mend a cracked ; laundry tub? A. R'rocure waterproof paste or glue, and completely coat a piece of cotton cord. Then pack this cotton cord tightly into the crack in your tub with a knife, and . . presto, a good seal! Q. How can I avoid wrink les when ironing pillow cas es? A. By ironing them length wise.
