For her birthday several months ago I gave Her an expensive pearl neck lace, and she was very thrilled about it. However, a couple pf weeks ago she broke off With me, and is now dating Steady with another guy. What especially bugs me is the fact that she is still wear ing my pearl necklace, even when she is out with this Other guy. Don’t you think, under the circumstances, I Should ask her to return the necklace? GEO. DEAR GEO.: Better to use a little logic here. The neck lace WAS a gift, you know, and gifts are usually given with no strings attached. I think you would be showing more maturity if you were to put aside your bitter feelings and forget about the neck lace. . DEAR SALLY: Do you think parents have a right to insist that their H-year-old daughter accompany them DEAR SALLY By SALLY SHAW wherever they goj .mostly to dull family gatherings? This is my big problem. So often I am compelled to cancel my own plans because my par ents want me to go with them on insufferably boring visits with aunts, uncles, or cousins of our family. Do you think this is fair? LINDA. DEAR LINDA: No I don’t, Of course, there are certain family functions you should attend, but certainly not to the exclusion of all your own activities. Teenagers should have the privilege of develp- ing their own interests and enjoying their own friends. * DEAR SALLY: My husband was a widower when I mar ried him last July, anj a darling 4-year-old di who ever since her died two years ago has^ taken care of by my hus band’s aunt and uncle, two very wonderful persons. I News of Joanna want more than anything else in the world to have this little girl live with us and to be a mother to her, especially since I am unable to have any children of my own. However, these people insist on keeping the child, claiming they have come to love her very dearly and that it would break their hearts to give her up now. My husband sym pathizes with them on this, but he also feels as I do, too. What do you say about this? THWARTED. DEAR THWARTED: I can appreciate, too, how these people feel about this. But still and all, a child does belong with its natural par ent if at all possible. This is up to your husband to handle with his aunt and uncle, un pleasant though the task may be. DEAR SALLY: I’m 19, and dating regularly with a nice boy of 20. There’s a certain stubborn girl he used to date who’s still after him. She keeps phoning him, and he’s always telling me about this and how hard she is to shake pff, and that no*matter how much he tries to discourage her she still keeps on chasing him. I get a little angrier every time he mentions this girl. Is there anything I might do to throw some cold water on her? FED UP. DEAR FED UP: I suspect somehow that your boy friend’s readiness to report on tips other girl’s activities is evidence that he’s really enjoying the “pursuit.” Some fellows, you know, like being chased, because it makes them feel “irresistible.” As for you, JTthink you’re suf fering from ' a lack of self- confidence. After all, the boy is dating regularly with YOU, isn’t he? So, what’s to worry about?
