mm tHS CHRONICLE, Clinton, S. C., Nor. 2,1*67 —17 Measles Qinks Scheduled Monday Measles ferine clinics will be held Monday, Nov. 6, for elementary school students in School District 56. The clinics are sponsored by the Laurens Coun ty Medical Society and the Laurens County Health Department in cooperation with the school system. Officials of the sponsoring organizations urge mothers of unprotected children from one through 12 years of age to have their children immunized against measles either at their own doctor’s office or at one of the school clinics during this cam paign. Dr. Von A. Long, director of the Laurens County Health Department, points out that the measles vaccine protects a child against “regular”” or “red” measles. The vaccine does not protect against “three-day” German measles. If a child already has had red measles, he will not need the vaccine, Dr. Long said. Children who already have been given the measles vaccine also will not need it again. Dr. Long added, however, that if a mother isn t sure whether her child had had red measles or previously has had the vaccine, it would not be harmful and would be wise for the child to re ceive the vaccine to be sure of his or her pro tection. The clinic schedule Monday: Martha Dendy, 8:30-9 a.m.; Bailey, 9:15-9:45; Providence, 9:50-10:10; Hampton Ave., 10:15-11- Joanna, 8:30-9; Woodson, 9:15-9:35; Cross Hill. Mountville, 10-10:20; Midway, 10:30-10:55. 'Last-Minute' Date Depends By SALLY SHAW DEAR SALLY: What do you think about a girl’s ac ceptance of a date with a fellow who calls her at the last minute? Somehow, when this happens to me, I always have the feeling that my name is way down on that fellow’s list, and that I’m being called on as a “last resort.” I’d appreciate your ideas on this. ANNIE. DEAR ANNIE: I think this would depend very much up on how well you know the particular fellow, his man ner of doing things, and how much you like him. Some fel lows are just naturally tardy about everything. And then, too, “last minute” or not, go ing out on a date is often much better than sitting at home watching TV! DEAR SALLY: I’m about to become engaged to a love ly girl, but now we’re em broiled in a little argument which maybe ^ you can help us settle. I was previously engaged to an unprincipled girl who “two-timed” me and, when I caught her at it, I demanded and got my ring back. It is a very beauti ful and expensive diamond, was worn by the other girl for only two months, and t want my present girl to have it. However, she has refused to accept it, claim ing she wants a ring that she can feel was meant for her and her alone, and that sTie couldn’t feel this way about this particular ring. Don’t you think she is being very silly about this? DAKOTA __ *v Surely blessing I will bless thee.—(Heb. 6:14) Let us bless all that we have — our home, our work, our material possessions of every kind. Let us bless these things, realizing they represent our acceptance and use of God’s substance. As we bless these outer expressions, our appre ciative attitude quickens us to see even more of the good. If we are given a fit, if someone shares some good with us, let us remember to give our bless ing for the gift and to the giver. DEAR SALLY By SALLY SHAW DEAR DAKOTA: No. The giving of an engagement ring is one of the biggest and most sacred moments in a girl’s life, and you’re asking this girl to accept what^ amounts to a secondhand gift. One easy solution for you — have the stone reset, and in an entirely new mounting it will be an en tirely new ring. DEAR SALLY: My big problem is a 19-year-old neighbor girl who is always flirting with my 42-year-old husband. And he flirts and kids right back! This humil iates and hurts me terribly, but when ever I mention It to him he just laughs and says, “If she gets such a bang out of it, why should I spoil her fun?” But he completely overlooks how much my life is being spoiled! WORRIED WIFE . DEAR WORRIED WIFE: I think you’re making entire ly too much out of nothing. Your 42-year-old man is probably as proud and pleased as he can be over his ability still to attract the at tention of a sweet young thing. The big key'to your so-called problem lies in your own words, “he just laughs.” Instead of letting your jeal ousy show laugh with him . . and I’ll bet this, more than anything else, will soon bring him down to earth again. DEAR SALLY: One of the girls in our college sorority eloped last weekend. We had no previous warning of this, and had been planning to give a bridal shower , for her in the near future. Now we’re wondering if it still wou'd be appropriate to give such a pkrty for her, even though she’s now married. THE GANG. DEAR GANG: Certainly, quite appropriate. A shower ^an be just as much fun. and the gifts fully as welcome; to a girl after she is marred as before. NOTE TO MORTIFIED: There’s nothing at all ill- mannered about your wom- and guest who ate the apple fillii your “best home: and left your crust” untouched, have had a perfectly good and logical reason for avoid ing the crust . . .such as be ing on a diet. tout, of pie,” “delicious She may about this question: “If a hunter avoids an auto accident on the trip out—doesn’t get shot at, or acci dentally shoot him self — avoids a mis hap on the way home —then naturally he doesn’t need a HUNTER S A C C I- DENT policy.
