'The Post Office Depart ment breaks records for mail volume every Christmas but 1967 may break more rec ords than any previous year, Postmaster W. D. Adair said recently. |Jn urging local citizens to mail early for Christmas, Adair said the four-state At lanta Region, of which his of fice is a part, will handle 100 million more pieces of mail this Christmas than last year. “Unless the people cooper ate and get their Christmas mailing done early we are go ing to be hopelessly swamped just before Christmas,” he said. “Things will get awfully chaotic.’* Adair urged that these dates be observed for domes tic surface mail: —Gifts to distant states, December 4. —Greeting cards to distant states, December 10. —Gfts and greeting cirds to nearby areas, December 18. Adair said gifts and greet ing cards sent by domestic air mail should be in the Post Offices by Dec. 19. The postmaster said spe cial attention again will be placed on the delivery of mail to servicemen in Vietnam and surrounding areas. But the following deadlines have been set: —Gifts weighing more than five pounds sent by surface postage rates—Nov. 11. —Gifts five pounds or less, plus letters and greeting cards sent at surface rates (these go by air on a space available basis), December 1. —Air mail gifts and greet ings, December 11. J. W. Spillers, ob serving his 20th anniversary as pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, will conduct revival services next week at the church. The revival series will open Sunday. Services will be conducted each evening, be ginning at 7:30, through Nov. 9. , Mrs. Joe Land will direct the music with Mrs. Vernon Trammell and Mrs. Frank Lee as accompanists on the piano and organ. .Special music and personal testimon ies will be featured at each service. The Thornwell High School Key Club recently presented a check for $25 to the Hamp ton Avenue School for pur chase of books for the .school library. The club will present anothr er $25 check to the Thornwell School. The money was raised ,by the club in a door-to-door sale Halloween candy. The 21-member Thornwell club is sponsored by the Clinton Kiwanis Club and in the past has sponsored East Egg hunts and parties at Whitten Village and at Thorn well. Currently, the club is working on a project in which the club will place two or three billboards on major highways leading into Clinton. The billboards will encourage church attend ance. Joe Daughtery is president of the club which meets eve ry first and third Wednes days in the YoutL Center. B. S. Templeton and Reese Young are advisors to the club. The club’s membership is composed of boys in grades nine through 12 at Thornwell. The club will begin its anr nual Chrjstmas card sale to day. - ' . .
