Parrish, Jr., in Aiken. Little Rene James of Joan na, sp6nt last week with her grandmother, Mrs. Mark Con ner, and her aunt ahd uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy South. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Wil liams made a business trip to Greenville on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Ben nett and Mrs. Paul McCauth- en and sons! Larry and Rap- dy, have returned to their homes in Chicago, 111., after a visit with Mrs. Bennett’s par ents, and Mrs. McCauthen’s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Ballard. They also vis ited other relatives and friends while here. Mrs. J. H. McPherson of Chester, spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Terrell and . her. sister, Mrs. Mildred Dickerson. Mrs. Myrtle Alewine spent the past week in. Greenwood with Mr. and Mrs. James Av- ery to be with her soh, Waynfe, who is a hospital patient there. Mrs. R. C; Satterfield, Mrs. Buddy Sanders and daughters and Mrs. Robert Satterfield and , daughters are spending two weeks in Galveston, Tex as, with their daughter, sister and aunt, Mrs. Buck Jones, and family. Mrs. Glenn Gaskins and Mrs. Fred Bodie accompan ied Miss Priscilla Gaskins to Augusta, Ga., Sunday follow ing a weekend say with her family. Mrs. Gaskins and Mrs. Bodie visited Mrs. Claud Gilstrap, Jr., Self Memorial hospital in Greenwood Sun day evening. Mrs .Vernon Ginn and dau ghters of Fountain Inn, visit ed Mrs. Claude Willard, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Willard and Mr. and Mrs. Maxie Davis during the past week. Mrs. Claud Willard returned home with her daughter for a few days’ visit. Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Wyatt and grandchildren, Bonnie, Wanda, J. ' Little Joanne Ashley King, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James King of Columbia, spent last week with her grandparents; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Goss, who, with their sons, took her home on Fri day. Miss Feroline Seay spent the past week with her sister, Mrs. Royce Smith, and Mr. Smith near Laurens. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wilkes and family of Newberry, vis ited Mr. and Mrs. Bo Brown on Friday, David Brannon re turned home with his mother and step-father after spending the week with the Brown fam ily. Claude (Buck) Gilstrap, Jr., remains a patient at Self Memorial hospital in Green- wodo. He is suffering injuries received in an automobile ac cident on July 15. Wayne Alewine is also a patient at Self Memorial Hos pital, Greenwood, following an automobile accident. Mrs. Homer Fuller has re turned home after being in Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood with a broken leg. Misses ' Pam and Kathy Brown, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Lester Mc Cullough in Mauldin. They at tended a rock and roll show in Greenville Saturday eve ning. O’DELL Work Unit Conservationist Progress is being made on the Duncan Creek Watershed. A project agreement between the Soil Conservation Service was completed last week for the construction of the fourth flood-water retarding struc ture. This dam will be locat ed on Long Branch and will contain a lake area of 28 acres. Invitations to b i d were mailed this week to prospec tive bidders for the construc tion of the dam, according to C. D. Waldrep, chairman of the watershed directors. The bids are to be opened in Lau rens on August 11 at 10:00 a. m. in the office of the Soil Conservation Service. The major items of work to be included in the contract will be 41 acres of clearing, tion, 40.5 cubic yards of con- tion, 40.5 cubic yards of con crete, 208 linear feet of re-en forced concrete pipe, and 48,- 000 cubic yards of compacted earth fill in the dam. Waldrep said that construc tion would begin within 15 days after the award of the contract, with 130 days of ac tual working days allowed for completion. The watershed directors have obtained all the ease ments and rights-of-way in volved with all structural measures. The entire project is scheduled for completion during the next fiscal year. After this dam is construct ed on Long Branch, the two remaining will be located on Duncan Creek about one mile below South Carolina High way No. 308, and the other one on a tributary of Duncan Creek, about one mile south of Bethany Church. Then, to complete the project, seven miles of stream channel im provement work will be done on the main Duncan Creek, starting above South Carolina Highway No. 56 and going to South Carolina Highway No. 26.
