Clinton, S. C„ Thursday, May 11, 1967 THE CLINTON CHRONICLE V. IIMwmP •xSS so proved helpful to Mrs. P. V. Jones, algebra and French teacher at Bell St. She points out that the records of native FJrencihmen t used on ETV’s high school French series make it easier for the stu dents to grasp the semantic sounds. She also feels the pre sentation of French customs via movies and visitors to the television program make the series more meaningful to her students. An observation of students in Clinton classrooms utilizing television indicate that they are not merely being “fed” information. They actually participate in the lesson, ans wering questions posed by the television teacher, repeating aloud^ sentences or important concepts and checking their texts when necessary. Class room teachers either take notes along with the class qr spend the television lesson portion of their class period observing the students to de termine whether or not all of them understand the concepts presented. Following the tele vision presentation the stu dents are urged to discuss the points that might not have been completely understood. Many students in the Clinton area have had enough exper ience taking television cours es that they know to write down questions as they watch the program so that during the follow - up discussion they can ask the classroom teach er to clarify the part they didn’t understand. Ten years ago, watching television in school was re served for presidential inau gurations or other noted na tional events, but today in several of Clinton’s District 56 schools, students consider it routine to walk into the classroom, take out their books, turn their attention to a television monitor and be gin to takes notes. Little, physical science teacher at Bell St., has been using ETV in his classroom for four years and feels it has been very advan tageous for his students. “On the television series, ♦’ley can conduct an experiment on al most anything.
