r* 1 1 ——^ u l k : pi^Bi y, THE CLINTON CHRONICLE Hint on, S. C., Tharsday, December 15, 1966 T- tYDAY ISELOR By Eb. WcrBErt spaugh guests, d6h’t yc is the celeDratio When you hive a birthday party ter a friend you usually invite him as well as other 6’t you? Christmas Won of the birth day of Jesus Christ. It even has llis name incorporated in the name of the holiday sea son. You’re going to have some Christmas parties? Are you going to invite Jesus Christ to be present as the Honor Guest? Why don't you place a chair for Him in the center of the festivities? Of course, you won’t see him occupy it physi cally, but it will remind you of His presence. If you are going to do that, you may feel it appropriate to alter some of your plans for th> party. You might decide not to bring in the cocktails. If you want to have “life” at the party, you don’t hav e to get it out of a bottle. That’s purely artificial. Inspiration from a bottle is not nearly as effective as inspiration from the Book. A correspondent recently wrote me asking me to send her something nice fqr a Christmas program. The nic est thing I can recommend' is the second chapter of St. Luke’s gospel and the second chapter of St. Matthew's gos pel. Men and women have been writing Christmas stories for 2.(100 years. But they haven’t been able to improve upon the originals. Instead of opening your party with cocktails, why wouldn’t it he more appropri ate to call the guests to bpw their heads, and repeat to gether one of the old blessings: “Come. Lord Jesus our guest to be, and bless these gifts bestoweel by Thee Amen.” But suppose you don't care for this type of party, and plan another one. Then suppose He came whether you invited Him or net. Would you be happy about it? Would you welcome Him? Itrwt Clinton, S. C. Actually, He is going to come again one day. He said he would. According to Bible record. He will be coming as your Saviour and Healer, or your Judge. It is up to you It is strange how so many people go along acting as if they expected to liv’a, here forever. They seem to reason that if you don’t think about death, it will go away. But it won’t! Turn to the obituary page in your newspaper. One day your name will be lisiecr there. J Those who have seen motion picture, "The Bible..’ I am sure were impressejd with the building and flobti of the Ark. Noah's associate thought he was foolish to be building an Ark on dry land. They laughed at him. He and his family survived. They didn’t. ; ■ There is a gfeat Christmas party ahead. How we partici pate in it will be determined upon how we participate in Christmas and its message down here. ' Why not invite Christ to your Christmas party? News From The County Agent By M. L. OUTZ An important meeting is scheduled for today (Thurs day) at 7:30 p.m. in the Agri cultural Building in Laurens. Three subjects will be dis cussed at the meeting. Dr. H. L. Cochran of Pomona Prod ucts in Griffin,- Georgia, will be with us to discuss pimiento pepper production in Laurens County. Many of our farmers fill remember our relationship with Pomona Products some years back. Dr. Cochran says the quality pepper produced in this area is superior to that in other areas. They are interested in coming back to Laurens and other Piedmont counties to secure a supply of this product. I understand that they are offering $105 per ton. The specifications will be similar to those when they were here before. Also. Leslie T:ndale, with the S. C. Soybean Association will be at the meeting to dis cuss soybean production and marketing. He is president of the Soybean Growers’ Asso ciation and is interested in ex plaining to our producets the work of the association. We have asked H. A. Ropp to take a few minutes and dis cuss any changes that have occurred in government pro grams for 1967. I am sure there are many farmers who will be interested in one or ] more phases of the above sub jects. We invite you to attend and bring your neighbor. There has been some dis cussion concerning the feeder cattle sales that have been held in this area. The prob lem is securing sufficient cat tle to continue the sales, es pecially the spring sale at Spartanburg. It is an accept ed fact that feeder sales have a good effect on the market. The prices are usually high er as a result of these sales. However, if w e are not able to get enough cattle together for the sale, then everyone will take a cut in prices. There have been several meetings held recently in ref erence to the value of these sales and securing cattle to Continue them. All of our far mers should take a look at this and give serious thought to entering a few cattle. In fact I would say all of the cattle that are sold of good type in the spring and fall should go into these sales. Other states such as North Carolina, Virginia, and Ken tucky have many thousands and have no trouble with num bers. I suggest that Laurens County farmers study the ad vantages of these sales and plan to enter some cattle, or else we will lose the advah- tage of this important market.
