Recently a new wom an in our neighborhood, someone I had not even met yet, phoned me and asked me to do a baby-sitting job for her. Well. I was practically floored when I arrived at her home on the appointed eve ning and found that the baby I was supposed to take care of was a boy of 13! Embar rassing though it was, I told the woman that I could not take care of the chore of “sit ting” with a boy only three years younger and a head taller than I am. She was very angry with me and even went so far as to call me a “welch- er.” Don’t you think I was right to turn down this job? SITTER. DEAR SITTER — Indeed, you were right! And maybe this will teache you a lesson should anything like this arise > in the future—to be more bus-u iness like when makin gar-' rangements for a new sitting job. Always ask how many children are involved ANE£ their ages. • • • DEAR SALLY — I am a young businessman and am about to become engaged to a girl whose parents live in another city almost a thous and miles from mine, and whom I have never had the privilege of meeting. Do you think perhaps thatfI should write some sort of letter to her parents. SOON A GROOM. DEAR GROOM — A nice, friendly letter to your girl’s parents would be bery appro priate, considerate, and cour teous on your part. Tell them something of the business you are engaged in, your pros pects, your financial stat us , f future plans, and of course how much* you love their daughter and how much you are hoping to meet them sometime in the near future. This will make' for good fam ily relationship. • * * DEAR SALLY—I think our office force is being “taken” by one of our unscrupulous fellow workers. Every time an occasion rises for a gen eral contribution this particu lar fellow takes charge. Re cently one of our fellow em ployees was transferred to another city, and this guy collected a buck from each of us for a farewell gift. Later when I saw the gift I almost fell over. I know it could not have cost over $5, where as the collection must have amounted to at least $25.
