Joanna Cotton Mills began operation in 1900 as a small manufacturing plant, later being purchased by the Regnery interests of Chicago, which controlcd the Joanna Western Mills Company. On July 12, 1965, Greqnwood Mills acquired the Joanna plant. Today some 1300 peo ple are employed and a vast renovation is underway. The Greenwood Mill family is comprised of 14 plants which rae part of a heritage which dates back to 1889. That was the year William Lownes Durst founded the Greenwood Cotton Company. The late J.| C. Self was elected president of the Company in 1908. Under his leadership the firm con tinued its growth into the for ties. J. C.
