Dillard of New York City, spent the Labor Day week end at their home here. Mrs. Marie Brown and Mrs. Ethel R. Pitts spent the Labor Day week-end in Hendersonville, N. C., and attended the Apple Festival. Mrs. H. D. Payne is visit ing her daughter, Mrs. Rich ard Lukstat, and Major Luk- stat in Boston, Mass. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred John son, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bonds spetat th^ week-end in Bre vard, N. C.'' Mrs. N. W. McDaniel is spending several days at Beech Island with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. B. W. McDaniel. On Sunday they will go to Fayetteville, N. C., where they will be joined by Mr. and Mrs. O. T. McDaniel for a trip to Front Royal, Va., Washington, D. C., Em erson, N. J., New York City and other points of inter est. They will visit the” lat ter’s sons, Newel McDaniel in Front Royal, and Donald McDaniel in Emerson. Mrs. Ethel R. Pitts is spending several days this week with ‘ her daughter, Mrs. Wayne Jarvis, Mr. Jar vis and children in Rock Hill. Mrs. M. O. Hollis has re turned from a visit with her daughter, Mrs. Richard H. Smith, in Birmingham, Ala. Arriving this week for a visit with Mrs. Hollis is Miss Blanche Taylor of Atlanta, Ga. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Potts spent the holiday weekend in Rock Hill with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Potts, Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Polk. On Sunday they attended the Dunlap family reunion. Dr. and Mrs. M. A. Mac donald visited last Thursday with Dr. and Mrs. Rhoderick Macdonald in Rock Hill, going especially for the birthday ce lebration of Dr. Rhoderick Macdonald. Miss Marjorie Arnold is spending several weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Arnold before returning to the College, of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va- where she will be a member of the senior class. Visiting them during the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Arnold of Beckley, West Virginia. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Blake ly and children of Springdaye, Va., have returned to their home having spent several days here with the former’s mother, Mrs. J. B. Speak. Loses Father Mike Reddeck has returned home from QUantico, Va., af- ter six weeks training with the N. R. O. T. C. Mr. and Mrs. William H. Hughes and family were call ed to Anderson last week due to the death of Mrs. Hughes’ father, Claude A. Reeves. Fu neral services were held Sat urday in Anderson. C., was the •week-end guest of Mr. and Mrs. Perry Moore at their cottage home on Lake Green wood. Also joining them there was their son, Pvt. Ron Moore of Fort Gordon, Ga. Mr. and Mrs. George M. Lane and son, Todd of Deca tur, Ga., visited the past week-end with Mrs. Lane’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Staton. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Turk and son, Roger, of Stonington, Conn., who have been spend ing some time in Spartanburg and Atlanta, Ga., were the week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Burnett, Sr. On Sunday they were joined by Mrs. Burnett’s sister, Mrs. J. J. McMinn, of Spartanburg, and they visited Mr. and Mrs. Charles Burnett and family in Columbia. Highlights From Clinton High By KAYRAN COX Connon Assists In Preporation Of Moth Textbook William S. Cannon, asso ciate professor of mathemat ics at Presbyterian College, is again supporting Dr. John T. Moore in the preparaton of a mathematics textbook that will be used at the jun ior and senior level of col lege work. The new publication is scheduled to appear next summer as an addition to the five books of mathemat ics already written by Dr. Moore. Cannon helped last winter in the revision of his popular “Elements of Ab stract Algebra” published by the McMillan Company, and also assisted in an ear lier textbook for freshmen mahtematics. Dr. Moore is presently on leave from the faculty of the University of Florida to teach at the University of Western Ontario in his na tive Canada. One of his books has been translated into two foreign languages, and another has gone into four printings. Profsesor Cannon has been on the Prsebyterian College faculty since 1957. He first became associated with Dr. lyioore while study ing under him at Florida for the master of science degree. ' ' i - . * Young Democrats To Meet Tuesday Young Democrats of Lau rens County will meet at the courthouse in Laurens on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 7:30 p. m., for the purpose of re organizing the count unit. Included on the agenda will be the election of new officers. Eligible for membership are persons from 18 to 40; I hope all of you saw the Clinton High Mighty Red slaughter the York Green Dragons Friday night. Not only did our team do well, but so did the CMS band. They all looked quite stylish in their new uniforms. Along with their red blazers, they are woarinr white slacks with red stripes down the sides. Their old black shoes have suddenly be come dazzling white to match their ascots. The outfit is top ped by a white, wooly beret. The cheerleaders, too, look very good in their newly- made pleated skirts and tas- seled berets. Now that school’s been in session an entire week, al most everyone has gotten back into the old routine of Changes Announced In Teachers Courses The following changes in times for the field class cour ses for teachers in Laurens County have been announced: Clinton — Math 401, Basic Concepts of Elementary Math has been substituted for the reading course which cannot be given due to non-availa- bRity of instructor. The math course will be given at Clip- ton High School Thursday, Sept. 22, at 4 p.m. Laurens — Education 436, Educational Measuremeht and Evaluation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 7 p.m., instead of the date and time previously scheduled. The courses are under the direction of the University of South Carolina, Division of General Studies and Exten sion. study and sleep. County Library Receives Grant The Laurens County Libra ry has received a grant of $1,500 in state aid from the South Carolina State Library Board to be uaed for new books and professional pers onnel during 1966-67, accord ing to Mrs. J. B. Hart, chair man of the Board of Trus tees. A program of State Aid for county and regional libraries has been long established in South Carolina and has re sulted in the extension of pub lic library service to all coun ties of the state. All of South Carolina’s 46 counties receive some form of state aid for public library development and extension, but only those libraries which are legally established and give county - wide service through bookmobiles, stations, and branches are eligible for the direct grant-in-aid. The amount of state aid giv en to Laurens County is the maximum amount granted any county for 1966-67.
