the Davidson Street Baptist
Church to “preach the Gospel
as he may have opportunity,
and to exercise his gifts in the
work of the ministry."
The pastor, Rev. M. Floyd
Hellams, presented the certi
ficate of. license to Mr.
Quarles during the worship
service, Sunday, Aug.’ 21. To
the young ministerial student
of North Greenville Baptist
Junior College, the pastor
spoke words of praise, en
couragement, and admoni
tion.
During the seven-year his
tory of the church two other
young men have been licens
ed to preach. They were Rev.
Shannon Long and Rev. Cope
land Whitmire, given license
on Aug. 6, 1961. Also, on Oct.
1, 1961 the church voted ap
proval of another of its mem
bers, David Cromer, to enter
Southeastern Baptist Semin
ary as a ministerial student.
All three are now serving pas
torates, Mr. Long in Ken
tucky, and Mr. Whitmire and
Mr. Cromer in North Caro
lina.

Passes Sunday
Marion J. Nabors. 45, of 605
Ferguson Street, died Sunday
at 6:15 p. m. at a Lexington
rest home after an illness of
two years.
A lifelong resident of Lau
rens County, a member and
elder and former deacon of
Providence A. R. P. Church,
he was a veteran of World
War II.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Miriam Coleman Nabors; two
daughters, Judy and Jeannie
Nabors, of the home; three
sisters, Mrs. Otto (Olga)
