Turner, Jr., has recently been honored by Mrs. Wham Resigns Mental Health Post I.- * his selection to received the “Golden Apple' Award”, at the South Carolina Medical College in Charleston. Lifb Sales Group Milford Smith, of Clinton, has qualified as a member of the 1963 Star Club of New York Life Insurance Co. The Star Club is composed of New York Life’s outstand ing agents and is based upon 1965-66 sales records, accord ing to General Manager Evan Hendrickson of the company’s Columbia general office. As a member of the Star Club, Smith qualified to at tend this year’s educational conh'rence this week at Biloxi. Miss. A coroner’s jury ruled here Monday that Miss Phillis G. Dean, 22, of 111., died by negli gence July 30 in an automo- (sile wreck. C Miss Dean was the only oc cupant of a compact car that went out of control and crash ed into an embankment on U. S. Highway 276, about three miles west of. Clinton. The victim was carried to a Clinton hospital where she died with internal injuries. State Highway Patrolman B. • W. Brock testified that Miss Dean was attempting to pass a truck when her car left the road, veered back into the pavement and overturned three times before hitting an embankment. The inquest was conducted by Laurens County Coroner ’Marshall Pressley. Mr?. Alma T. Wham, of Laurens, has announced her resignation as field represen tative for the South Carolina Mental Health Association, to be effective August 31. She will be associated with anoth er agency to be announced shortly. In letters mailed on August 10 to key personnel In mental health in South Carolina ad vising them of her pending resignation. Mrs. Wham ex pressed her appreciation for their assistance “as we work ed together for the benefit of -the mentally ill”, and stated how much her own life had been “greatly enriched and blessed.” Recognized locally and statewide for her work in pro moting the mental health pro gram in the state, Mrs. Wham has been highly praised for her contribution to the “cause oi the mentally ill”. Senator Elarle E. Morris, Jr.. Chairman of the Gover nor’s Committee on Mental Health and Mental Institu tions, stated “the impact she ^ias made in the field of men tal health will be felt for years to come.” Mountville Grange Has Supper Meeitng mn ci sc in earth eniu&re V STARTER SET SALE! Finley, Master, told of receiving a special Boost er Night’s letter from the Na tional Grange Master, stating that the Grange was working on an amendment to permit prayer in public schools. It was also stated that the new National Grange monthly publication would be sent to every Grange, beginning with the November, 1966, issue. The lecturer, Mrs. S. J. Hunt, had a short and in formative program concern ing how the grange helps in dividuals as well as the com munity. Mr. Finley reminded mem bers of the election of offi cers next month.
