'Wrong Number- Wastes Time Of Two, Says Martin A lot has been said about “nuisance” calls lately, but per haps the most irritating kind is the “wrong number" caller. Clinton and Joanna Sout Bell manager D. H. Martin spys that wrong numbers are not only irritating, but “they are a waste of valuable time and money J* About 28,500 local call# are dial ed in Clinton and Joanna every day, says Martin, "and our stud ies indicate that some 216% of those tire wrong numbers." Martin explained that he wish ed the wrong number problem was one that Southern Bell could solve by sending out a repair man but the solution lies with Clinton and Joanna telephone users. “When a person dials a wrong number, it is usually due to de pending too much on memory,” Martin stated. “Everyone with a phone has a telephone direc tory, but all too often we go aheqd and dial from memory in stead of checking the listing to be sure.” Martin added that another problem is pure carelessness, a slip of the finger. Be suggested the following basic rules which should result in better telephone service for everyone: (1) Look up the number; (2) Jot it doWn; (3) Listen for dial tone; and' (4) dial carefully— pull the dial all trie way to the finger stop and allow it to return alone. “Each time someone calls a wiping number, two people waste time, at least one person is irritated and telephone switching equipment is tied up unnecessarily. These rules should work to benefit every one,” Martin concluded. CASPER THE FRIENDLY GHOST SAYSt fuSTslnd H Fonit-sate prkiNl mw!
