C M Thursday, November 4, 1965 THE CLINTON CHRONICLE LIBBY MOTES BOND THOMAS Laurens Community Theatre Drama Scheduled for November 19 and 20 The Laurens Community Thea tre will present a well-known drama, “Dark Victory,” on Fri day and Saturday nights, Nov ember 19 and 20, at the Laurens Central Elementary School Au ditorium. This exciting and dramatic presentation, the first play of the new season, is under the_ direc tion of Carl Mullis. Libby Motes and Bond Thomas will portray the lead roles, in the forthcom ing production, with Joanne Smith, Jane Dail Roper, Gordon Collins and Jean Burts also par ticipating. Others in the cast are Jim Blore, Nance Babb, Carl Mullis, Taddy Atkinson, Tom Babb and Betty Rawl. This community - sponsored group, whch has hopes of be coming county-wide, especially enlists Clinton’s support of this worthwhile production. C Thomas, Jeweler ‘Tt»e CLINTON JOANNA Drop-In Given For Players and Parents Mr. and Mrs. Cally Gault and Mrr and Mrs. Billy Tiller com plimented the Blue Hose players and their parents with a drop-in Saturday evening at the Gault home immediately following the Presbyterian-Troy State game. Some 100 parents and team members called during the even ing as Parents Da£ was celebrat ed at Presbyterian College. A Halloween motif prevailed in the receiving rooms. In the dining room where dainty party refreshments with coffee were enjoyed, an arrangement of roses centered the buffet table. Assisting in entertaining were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nixon, Mr. and Mrs. Benny Crabtree, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Gault, and Gen. and Mrs. Ansel Godfrey. Methodist Group Hears Talk By Harris The November meting of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service was held Monday af ternoon in Hodges Hall with a Thanksgiving program arrang ed, and the devotional program presented by Mrs. Fred Pitts and Mrs. L. S. Reddeck. Mrs. Raymond Pitts intro duced the guest speaker, H. F. Harris, of Colmbia, who is su perintendent of the Carolina Children’s Home, a non denom inational institution for chil dren, who told about it’s begin ning and purpose. Mr. Harris brought out the needs of the school and how it is suported. At the close of the service, each circle chairman presented contributions from their circle to Mr. Harris, giving appropri ate Bible readings as the gift was preseited, to be used for the home. During the social hour dainty refreshmnets of cookies, cheese biscuits and nuts were served from a prettily appointed table which was centered with a large compote of pyracantha berries and greens. Russian tea was served from one end of the table by Mrs. E. W. Rog ers. Mrs. Harris, a former teach er in the Clinton schools, ac companied Mr. Harris and were guests of Mrs. Raymond Pitts while in Clinton. Clork-Lorenz Announcement Mr. and Mrs. Niles Clark of Waterloo recently announced the engagement of their daughter, Evelyn, to Richard Allen Lorenz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Jacob Lorenz of Davenport, Iowa. The wedding is planned for November 27 at Waterloo Metho dist Church. Miss Clark holds a B.A. degree from Winthrop College and an M. A. degree in zoology from Oberlin (Ohio) College. Mr. Lorenz attended Augustana Col lege in Rock Island, HI., and was graduated from Iowa State Uni- vrsity with a B. S. degree in chemical engineering. Miss Clark and Mr. Lorenz work at the Oak Ridge, Tenn. National Laboratory. He it em ployed in the reactor chemistry division and Miss Clark is in the biology division. Wysor HI and Mrs. Benjamin F. Ivey were hostesses at a bridge luncheon in a tradi tional Halloween setting last week at the Ivey home on Elm Street. Arrangements of chrysanthe mums and autumn leaves in jack-o-lanterns decorated the liv ing room and den where four ta bles were in play. A SHOUSE Correspondent Achievement Day for 4-H mem bers will be observed Saturday, November 6 at the Laurens County fairgrounds. Awards will be made at 11 o’clock, followed by dinner served at 12:00 noon. Shady Grove members who will participate includes Cathie Ber ry and Steve Wright, who are county winners. Friends of Mrs. Alvin Tinsley will regret to learn that' she is a patient at Self Memorial hos pital in Greenwood. Mrs. Tinsley fell at her home and suffered a broken hip. Mrs. Carter Wright spent sev eral days in Tennessee last week. She carried her grand mother, Mrs. Rice, for a funeral. The Shady Grove 4-H Club will meet Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the club house. All members are urged to attend. Village Employees Have Tacky Party Whitten Village employees en joyed a “Tacky Party” Thursday evenihg'^at 'the Parent’s Club House, sponsored by the Whitten Village Employees Club. Guests enjoyed games, stunts, and refreshments. Later in the evening prizes were given for winners of bingo. Winners for the “Tackiest Male” was Jimmy Lamb of Cross Anchor and the Female” was won Gladys Galloway. Mrs- Gault Bridge Hostess On Thursday Mrs. Marvin Gault was hostess to the members of her bridge club last Thursday afternoon, at her home on Chestnut Street. A Halloween motif was carried out in decoraUons along with an arrangement of yellow roses in the living room where the three tables were arranged for play. Mrs. Claude Crocker and Mrs. W. G. King Jr., were prize win ners following several progres sions of bridge. A dessert treat of icebox pie and coffee were enjoyed before play. Mrs. William Beck, new resident of the city and a sister of Mrs. King was a special guest of the club. Mrs. Fuller Hostess For Bridge Club Meet Mrs. R. M. Fuller was host ess to members of her bridge club and a number of guests last Tuesday afternoon at her home on York Sreet. Prize winners were Mrs. James L. Walker, Mrs. Cally Gauit, and Mrs. Miles P. Pow- eU. Roses and chrysanthemums were used to decorate the rooms where five tables were in play. A salad course was served between progressions. Workshop Conducted By Iris Garden Club A fall workshop on flower ar ranging was conducted by mem bers of the Iris Garden Club at the October meeting last Wed nesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. William Davis. ■ Th business session was fol lowed by a social hour during which members, working In groups of three, created flower arrangements from materials Which they had brought to the meeting.
