CHURCH NEWS The Elizabeth Street Church of God will have homecoming Sunday, October 8. Rev. C. W. Barnes of the Laurens Church of God will conduct the 11:00 o’clock worship service. Mr. Barnes is a former pastor here. Lunch will be served at 1:19, with singing in the afternoon. Guest singers will be the all male quartet singers of Slater, and a band from Pelzer. • • * The Ladies' Auxiliary of the Pentecostal Church had the regular meeting Monday eve ning at the home of Mrs. James Craine on Academy Street. He said that, “Although the film, ’Point of View,’ is directed to youth of high school and col lege age, it is appropriate for adult audiences, too." The film is being placed in the Greenwood School District Film Library where it will be avail able to schools and other groups in both Greenwood and Laurens counties. Requests for use of the film can be made by letter or tele phone to the Greenwood School District, or to the Tuberculosis and Health Association office in Laurens. Winn-Dixie Stores Pays $1,115,260 In Employees' Bonuses Employees of Winn-Dixie and Kwik-Chek Food Stores have re ceived $1,119,280.29 in year-end profit sharing bonuses, accord ing to G. R. Kay, vice-president IB Association Has Film Available The Tuberculosis and Health and division / manager of the Association has purchased a new film on smoking according to Henry M. Paris, president. Mr. Paris pointed out that the association, in obtaining the the cash payments, it is estimat ed that $3,000,000 will be allocat ed to the participants’ retire ment accounts for the firm’s fis cal year which closed June 98. Each year since 1946, Winn- Dixie has set aside a portion of its profits for distribution to qualified employees. All employ ees of the firm who have com pleted five years service partici pate and are not required to contribute any part of their sal ary to the program. The assets of the trust are held in trust to provide retire ment income to employees in addition to social security bene fits. The profit sharing retirement program is part of the compre hensive employee benefit pro gram of Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc., which also includes life, health and accident insurance, sick pay, Christmas bonuses, stock purchase plan and a college scholarship program for chil dren of employees.
