Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Oakley and family of Rock Hill, were recent guests of his moth er, Mrs. Oakley. Mr. and Mrs. David Word and Misses Sue Word and Dianne Ledford visited in Spartanburg on Tuesday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Glenn and Deidre of Greenville, were guests of Mrs. Glenn’s sister, Mrs. Clyde Trammell, and* Mr. Trammell, a few days last week. On Sunday the Glenns, Tram mells and the Melvin Seay fam ily joined the other sisters and brother for a Seay family gath ering at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Royce Smith near Laurens. Miss Feroline Seay and Teresa Seay returned home Sunday. af ternoon after spending the week end with the Smiths. Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Sim mons of Greer, visited Mr. and Mrs. Columbus Hughes on Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bodie have returned after a week’s vacation at Ocean Drive. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pitts and Donny and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Patterson and children of Inman, were with them. Mrs. L. A. Hall and Mr. and Mrs. Alton Murrell of Johnston, were Sunday guests of the for mer’s daughter and latter’s sis ter, Mrs. Ithiel Harvey and Mr. Harvey. Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Lee Stead ing and sons of Sumter, spent the week-end with his mother, Mrs. Mamie Steading and sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Campbell. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Gaines and family of Newberry, were Thursday vsitors of Mrs. Annie Lawson. Mr. and Mrs. J. Br Vanderford and daughters spent the week end in Union with Mrs. Vander ford s parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Smith. Mr. Smith is ill at his home. Mr. and Mrs. Casey Aber crombie and Mr. and Mrs. Jim my Abercrombie of Greenwood visited Mrs. Stella McLendon and Mrs. Jim Bailey Sunday. They all attended the Harris re union at the Long Branch com munity building. Royce Goss of Zell wood, Fla., was the guest of his brother and sister-in-law during the week end. - Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Johnson and children, Joe, Mia and Cookie, spent a few days at Myrtle Beach last week. Mrs. Melvin Satterfield and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Gambrell attended the Harris reunion at the Long Branch community building Sunday. Freddie Dickerson and Harold Frick, who are at Fort Stewart. Ga., with the National Guard unit, spent the week-end here with their families. Mrs. R. G. Johnson is visiting relatives in Spartanburg and Duncan. CLUB OUTING CANCELLED The Lydia Woman’s Club family get-together, scheduled to be held at the Greenwood State Park tonight, has been cancelled. YOUTH WEEK ENDS IN SUCCESS The Youth Week at the Lydia Baptist Church came to a close Sunday morning after a very successful week. A large number participated in the activities each evenis^. The young people were very appreciative for the number at tending Thursday evening for the film and then for the banquet served Friday evening by the WMS and other ladies of the church. “OFF TO COLLEGE’* SUNDAY The Lydia Baptist Church morning worship services , on Sunday will be in honor of the college students. The “Off to College’’ service will have several of the students participating on the program. WITH THE SICK Mrs. Pauline Lawson is a medical patient at Bailey Me morial Hospital. Miss Priscilla Gaskins, Mrs. J. B. Patterson and Mrs. Jim Dean have returned to their homes following illnesses at Bailey Memorial Hospital. Ends Army Course Army Sergeant First Class Wade Walker, Jr., 41, whose mother, Mrs. Annie M. Walker, lives at 930 Florida St., Clin ton, was graduated July 17 from the 3rd Infantry Division Noncommissioned Officer Acad emy in Kitzingen, Germany. Sergeant Walker received ?ive weeks of training in leader ship responsibilities, exercise of command, map reading and military teaching methods. Walker, a platoon sergeant in Company A, 3rd Aviation Battalion near Kitzingen, en tered the Army in January, 1943. He was last assigned at Fort Lewis, Wash. Sergeant Walker attended Bell Street High School in Clin ton.
