I Clinton, a C., Thurndny, May 27, 1965 rrr THE CLINTON CHBON1CLE CHS Clintonian Dedicated To Mrs. Crawford The senior class of Clinton High School dedicated the IMS Clintonian, its annual, to Mrs. L. A. Crawford of the high school faculty, and presented her with the first copy off the press at the annual party May 4. Presenting the book were co editors Betty Mae Baldwin and Dana Turner, who expressed on behalf of the class, appreciation for her dedication to her pro fession, her willingness to help her students, and her inspira tional understanding Miss Baldwin later presented an annual and a gift from the staff to Miss Frances Sheely, faculty adviser to the Clintonian. Eddie Shealy, advertising man ager, and Johnny Lanford, busi ness manager, presented the co editors their annuals, who in turn gave annuals to other mem bers of the staff. The editorial staff was com posed of Judy Abner and Jeanie Glover, junior co-editors; Mackie Austin and Rena Cox, literary editors; Jimmie Heaton and Beverly Poole, clssses edi tors; Mark King, sports editor; Robbie Lewis, activiites editor, and Janice Caughman and Caro lyn Fuller, typists. Business staff: Juanita Wil lard, assistant business manag er: Janice Xoffz, circulation manager and typist: photogra phers, Eddie She ally and Ron nie Traylor. The cover of the 19® Clinton ian features a gold Clinton High seal on a burgundy background. According to the staff, the IMS Clintonian was mmi produced at Clinlon High School and more copies have been sold this year than ever be fore. Poppy Days Total $246 For American Legion Auxiliary Sale Contributions to the American Legion Auxiliary Poppy Days total $246.10. according to Mrs Henry Young, chairman. The contributions received will be used exclusively for veteran rehabilitation and child welfare, Mrs. Young said. Poppies worn in Clinton were made by disabled veterans in the Veterans Hospital, Colum bia, under the guidance of the rehabilitation program of the Auxiliary. Veterans aiooe, how ever, receive compensation for making the small red crepe pa per flowers. All other work in connection with Poppy Day is done on a volunteer basis. Mrs Young said she appreciated the interest, time and support given by many people to make this project a success. Young. Stole Agriculture Group To Honor Fred W. Gist, Teocher - Fred W. Gist, teacher of voca tional agriculture at Bril Street High School, will be honored at a special ceremony in Orange burg on Saturday, June 5. The South Carolina Associa tion of New Farmers of America will confer upon Gist the “Honor ary Modern Fanner Degree” for his service to vocational agricul ture in South Carolina and his contributions to the New Farm ers of America organization. The ceremony will take place in White Hall Auditorium of South Carolina State College, at which time Gist will be present ed a certificate and a lapel pin. The notification of the award came from W. F. Hickson, of State College, advisor to the South Carolina Association of New Farmers of America, in which he stated, “We hope, in some measure, to show our deep appreciation for what you have meant to our organization.'' Gist has served for 12 years as teacher of vocational agricul ture at Bril Street High School, and in addition aids fanners of the county who call upon him for his services. Miss Ruth Todd Given Art Recognition At Erskine College Miss Ruth Todd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sloan Todd, was named the first recipient of an art award at ErsUne College, Due West, it was announced this The citation presented Miss Todd, a member of the fresh man class, stated “an award is given to a student in the art classes who has not only achiev ed a high proficiency in the field of art. but who has through her interest and work inspired others in their endeavor, serving as an encouragement in further studies of art.” In 'recognition of achievement in this field, the recipient was presented an award of $0.00. Code! Johnson Of AFA To Study In Go., Colif. U. S. Air Force Academy, Colo.—Cadet Robert E. Johnson, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Johnson. Sr., of Clinton, S. C., is scheduled to depart the U. S. Air Force Academy in mid-June for study tour of the Air Force, Army and Navy in stallations across the nation. Cadet Johnson, a graduate of Clinton High School, is a mem ber of the academy class of ’68. The cadet’s indoctrination will include a comprehensive tour of the missile complex at Vanden- berg AFB . Calif., and flying with Air Force combat ready air crews. In addition to exten sive Army briefings' at Fort Benning, Go., he and his class mates will spend three days at sea studying naval operations. Dovidson Street Slates Bible School The Davidson Street Baptist Church has announced the dates for its annual Vacation Bible School. Registration and preparation day for pupils, nursery through intermediate age, and for the Bible School faculty will be Sat urday, June 5, from 8:30 to 10:30 a m. A parade is scheduled at 10:00 a.m. The Bible School will be held Monday through Friday, June 7-11, 8:30 a.m. to 11:0 ajn. Mrs. McSween's Pupils Present Piano Recital Featuring music by American composers, the pupils of Mrs. Harry McSween presented a pi ano recital Tuesday night at Fellowship Hall, First Presby terian Church. At that time, Mrs. McSween presented gifts to Edna Jacobs, Nancy Anne Jones, Claire Dun can, and John Fulmer, Jr., who were awarded ratings of one or one minus in th e annual Mu sicians’ Guild contest earlier this spring. In addition to the four recip ients, other pupils who partici pated in the recital Tuesday in cluded Maxine Duncan, Kathy Hay, Charlotte Lehn, Tommy Henderson, Dirke Von Hrilen, Cynthia Turner, Melissa Tur ner, and Carolyn Burns.
