Mrs. John W. Davis and children of'Greenwood, join ed them on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Coates and children of Charlotte were weekend guests of the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Warren. Dr. and Mrs. Joe Godfrey and children of Columbia and Dr. and Bin. Mac Poole and children of Spartanburg, spent the week end with their mother, Mrs. M. C. Poole. Friends will be interested to know Mrs. Cecil P. Wilson’s mother, Mrs. W. A. Vaughn, is ill and is a patient at Greenville General Hospital. Miss Sister Blalock, freshman at Converse College, Spartan- bdrg; George Blalock, Jr., of the Medical College, Charleston, and Milling Blalock, law student at the University of South Caro lina, were home over the week end, coming especially to cele brate thefr father’s birthday. ATTEND CHRISTENING Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Sowers spent Sunday, February •, in Hhrtsvllle with their niece, Mrs. Frank Oates, and Mrs. Oates, going especially for the Chris tening of their great niece, Caro lyn Elizabeth Oates. They were accompanied from Sumter by Mr. and Mrs. John Allen Dugan, parents of Mrs. Oates. Charles “Bubba” Ray and Bobby Hamer left Sunday for Fort Jackson where they will be gin a six months tour of duty with the U. S. Army. They are members of the local National 287 North Broad Street — - ^ --a a rTW rwnff IB Guard unit. They will complete their six months of duty at Fort Bliss, Texas. Mrs. Eugene Hitt has returned from a visit with her. daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. 1. H. Ford in Avon Park, Fla. She was accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Armstrong of Gray Court. MARKS DEAN LIST Miss Marjorie Arnold was among students at the College of William and Mary named to the dean list. Miss Arnold, a first quartet sophomore, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Arnold. Spending the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Layton was their daughter, Miss Jean Lay- ton of Greenville. Also visiting was Miss Carol Blakely, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Blake ly also of Greenville. Mr. and Mrs. William Black- well were called to Florence last week to the serious illness and death of Mr. Blackwell’s mother, Mrs. W. W. Blackwell. Mr. and Mrs. Henderson Pitts recently visited in Albany, Geor gia with their son, John Pitts. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Addison re cently accompanied their daugh ter, Mary Jane to Florida where she visited Rollins College in Winter Park. Mrs. Murphy Timmerman and Mrs. Tom Baldwin have been visiting their mother, Mrs. R. A. Knight, who is a patient at the Greenville General Hospital. Gus Blakely is a patient at Bailey Memorial Hospital where he underwent surgery last week. Mrs. George Senn and daugh ter, Elisabeth, of Newberry were guests Wednesday of Mrs. Senn’s mother, Mrs. W. W. Harris. Mrs. George Taylor is conval- esing at her home having been a patient at Bailey Memorial Hos pital. Teachers from Clinton attend ing the luncheon of the Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Saturday in Ware Shoals were Mrs. Grace Connor, Mrs. N. A. Shouse, Mrs. Nene Workman and Mrs. M. C. Poole. J. C. Thomas is able to be out again'after being a patient at Bailey Memorial Hospital where he received treatment for injur ies received in a hunting acci dent last week. Mrs. J. D. Henry has returned to her home In Montgomery, Ala., after a visit with her sis ter, Mrs. Marion Nabors and family. Mr. Henry was here for the week-end and accompanied her home. Mrs. Glenn Brock Reaves and sons arrived by plane yesterday in Atlanta, Ga., where she was met by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Davis V. Pitts. They have been making their home in Rancho Cordova, Calif, where Lt. Reaves is stationed with the U. S. Air Force. He will join them here soon before going to an Air Base in Florida where he has been transferred. Mr. and Mrs. Grady Chandler and Mrs. A. 8. Horton were in Laurens Sunday for the christen ing of their grandaughier, Laura Elizabeth Chandler, which took place at the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. W. Redd Turner officiating. Following the service the Chand lers and Mrs. Horton were din ner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Earle, the infants maternal grandparents. Master Jeffery Howe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Howe, is convalescing at home after be ing ill for several days with chicken pox. Mrs. G. W. Hollingsworth is a patient at Bailey Memorial Hospital. New* of Bonds Cross Roads MRS. N. A. SHOUSE Correspondent 4-H CLUB MEETING Shady Grove 4-H Club mem bers met Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 9. Members were encour aged to work on their individual projects. A number of members attended the Electric Club meet ing in Laurens Tuesday night. Among those attending the first meeting of the club were Linda and Brenda Franklin, Cathy Ber ry, Judy Davenport, June Hunni- cutt, Steve and Buddy Wright, and Maxine Spivey. These mem bers and Lynn Nabors and Mar cia Hill will attend the second meeting this week. The members were accompanied by the local 4-H leaders, Mrs. Clarence Hun- nicutt and Mrs. Carter Wright. GIVEN SHOWER Mrs. Patsy Howard was hon ored Saturday evening with a household shower. A number of friends of Mrs. Howard met at the recreation building of Shady Grove Presbyterian Church Sat urday. Mrs. Margaret Berry led the group in e number of appro priate contests and gamas, after which Mrs. Howard was present ed a shower of useful household gifts. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Margaret Berry, Mrs. Carter Wright and Mrs. Clyde Wehunt. Out of town guests in cluded Mrs. Saewart Howard and Miss Barbara Howard of Greer. WORLD MISSION WEEK Ladies of Shady Grove Presby terian Church met at the home of Mrs. Clyde Wehunt on Thurs day to observe World Mission Week. Jjr' MEN HONORED . On Sunday, February 7, the men of Shady Grove Church were honored by the ladies of the church. Following the wor ship service on Sunday morning the ladies invited the men of the church and their families to din ner at Panorama Lodge near Greenwood.
