Following in his broth* er, End's footsteps, Calvin has achieved what all 4-Hers would like. That exclusive trip to the club congress. Each state Irak lowed approximately 3B mem bers to attend the congress each fall. This means that approxi mately 2000 club members snd leaders will attend the congress held in Chicaso. Calvin's activities in 4-H proj ects included poultry, tractor, corn, wheat, livestock Judging, and soil Judging. He has served as president of his local 4-H Club. R. J. Bennett, associate agent, says Calvin has learned to care for farm machinery through the Calvin Robertson has won a 4-H tractor maintenance project, scholarship and a trip to Bennett also stated that Calvin National 4-H Club Congress, had become a skillful tractor Ivin’s 4-H activities brought driver after entering the 4-H about. This young man, who tractor driver’s contest at Clem entered Clemson this fall, has son. Calvin has had several years of livestock Judging. While in Chicago, he win visit the Inter national livestock Show where he will see the best cattle in the worid. Mrs. H. C. Ladd, who is Cal vin’s 4-H local leader, says “He is a very outstanding 4-H mem ber and takes an active interest in all 4-H activities. He is active in school, church, and commun ity affairs; Calvin has attended 4-H camps, helped with vespers, put in window-displays, and help ed with fair booths. He has un dertaken many projects and completed them. He is depend able and believes in doing a Job well.’' Calvin’s trip to the 4-H Con gress is sponsored by the Ameri can Oil Foundation. The |800 scholarship is sponsored by Sou thern Nitrogen. I would like to congratulate Calvin on this wonderful achieve ment and wish him continued success in every undertaking. Farmers must clean and treat small grain before planting. Seed of known origin and purity should be planted. Reports com ing back from the testing lab oratory show seed infsstod with curly dock, chess, plantain, and wild onions. This simply illus trates where ell these weeds have been coming from. Farm ers have been sowing them. Once a field is infested it costs money to get rid of thorn. Recently, I mailed the recom mended varieties to be planted In the Piedmont to all farmers in the county. I hope farmers will study this report and plant the best varieties for our area. There is a new variety of wheat recommended. It is Coker’s gi ld. The reports show it to bo very good. You might want to try it. Executor Sspt 28. 1964 01-2C-O15 3(Mi Division Plans Reunion Fontana Dam, N.C.—The 20th Division Association, compooed of veterans of Worid War I and World War n, wfil hold a reunion at Fontana Dam, N.C., Saturday, November 7, 1904. Banquet speaker will be Colo nel James C. Dempsey of Atlan ta, Georgia, who fought as an enlisted man with the 30th dur ing Worid War I, and who was it’s Inspector General during Worid War II. Several hundred veterans and their families are expected to attend. Host for the reunion will be the North Carolina Tar Heel Chapter of the 80th Division As sociation. South Carolina National Guardsmen, who were called into active duty during the two Worid Wars, distinguished themselves by breaking the famous Hinden- burg Line during World War I, and during the second war, fought from the beaches of Nor- manefy into the heart of Ger many, winning five combat stars in the process. Part of the 30th was called into active duty from South Carolina. You don’t want to seem too eager — but you want to know what she likes ... and what she’s like. Eric's and Mildred’s fint date was a Youth Fellowship supper at the church. Eric happens to be a leader of this group. And Mildred happens to be an earnest Christian girl Of course, happens is a very broad word. It means that Eric’s and Mildred’s parents had once decided that n son or a daughter ought to be given the advantage of religious training. Now Eric and Mildred are engaged.
