Rev. and Mrs. James Drum mond and Janice of Talladega, Ala., were recent guests of Mrs. J. J. Abrams. Also Mr. and Mrs. John Vernon and Janice of Paradise, Calif., M-Sgt. and Mrs. Joe Kennedy and family of Shaw AFB, Sum ter. Miss Sallie Mae Franklin spent two days with Mrs. An nie Laurie Simpson last week. She was here due to the death of her brother, Glenn Franklin. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Morse on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Estes and children of Greenville, and Cecil Little and sons, Doug and Jamie of Charlotte, N. C. Mr. Morse was discharged from the Greenville General hospital last week and his condition is improving. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Stokes and Misses Louise and Mildred Corley of Easley were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. S. A. League. Mrs. E. J. Willingham has returned after a two weeks visit in Atlanta, Ga., with Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Howard. Mrs. Cecil O’Dell and Mrs. Lavinia Cooley attended the testimonial dinner for C. V. Verner at the Poinsett Hotel In Greenville recently. Mike Cooley spent last week end with Mrs. Lavinia Cooley. He wants to be a MINISTER. I wondered if his fathsr or Ms uncle or anyone else in the family Is a minister? Strangely enough, not He won’t make a lot of money, and knowing John, he certainly won’t particularly like the idea of getting up to “preach* to people. Definitely he won’t have a big shiny car to make Ms calls. I wondered why John had dodded to devote a lifetime to service in the Church. I asked John for a frank answer and he told me many small accumulative experiences which boiled down to this: A strong Christian influence from family, friends, and church kindled a spirit of awaro- nsos and devotion which seems to be latent to every human heart. Of course, we can’t all be like John. Few of us have received the stimulus to devote our entire life to the Church. But some of John’s spirit does dwell in all of us.
