P. Weldon of Detroit, Mich., and Mr. and Mrs. Brooks Copeland and children of States ville, N. C. are guests this week of Mrs. R. J. Copeland and fam ily. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Rice had as their gusets last week Mr. and Mrs. George Stowe and daughters, Becky and Jeannette of Asheville, N. C. Bob McIntyre was called to Lumberton, N. C. because of the passing of his mother. Bill Patterson, a recent patient at Self Memorial Hospital, Greenwood, has returned home. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gasque are moving to Greenville where Mr. Gasque has accepted a position with the Internal Revenue De partment. Mr. and Mrs. Wilmot Shealy are spending some time in Co lumbia. Vacationing this week in the North Carolina mountains are Mr. and Mrs. Henderson Pitts. Curtis Tribble of Columbia spent last week with his grand parents, Mr. and >frs. W. B. Tribble. Dr. and Mrs. C. Bynum Betts are leaving today for Flat Rock, N. C., where they will remain until September 1. Mr. and Mrs. Grady Chandler spent a few days last week with Mr .and Mrs. Dewey Riddle in Burlington, N. C. Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Clement and children, Tommy and Cathy, of Charleston, spent the week end with Mrs. Clement’s par ents, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Leake, who also had as guests, Mrs. Leake’s sister, Mrs. Joe Wil liams of Greenwood and her niece, Mrs. Herman Gurst and her t daughter, Deborah of Al bany, Ga. Mrs. Pressie Brooks and Miss Bessie Bankhead have returned to their home in Jacksonville, Florida, having visited the for mer’s sister, Mrs. J. A. Davis and other relatives and friends. VISITORS FROM COLORADO AND GEORGIA Mr. and Mrs. Doyal K. Burton and sons, Doyal Jr. and Richard, of Denver, Colorado, and Miss Kathryn Davis of Augusta, Ga., are spending a while here with Mrs. Burton and Miss Davis’ mother, Mrs. J. A. Davis and other relatives. Dr. G. C. Nabors and children, Amy, Tommy and Bill, of Dal las, Texas, arrived yesterday for a visit with his mother, Mrs. G. C. Nabors, and other relatives in Joanna. Amy will remain for a visit with her grandmother after her family has returned to Tex as. Mr. and Mrs. fom Childress and daughter, Laurie, are now making their home at Gray Court, where Mr. Childress will teach agriculture. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Etter (Sara Pitts) of Pensacola, Fla., Mr. and Mrs. Paul Martin (Ann Pitts) and their children of Co lumbia, spent the week-end with their mother, Mrs. James Pitts. Mrs. H. R. McLeod and Mrs. C. S. McLeod of McBee, and Mrs. Ralph R. Blakely of Dur ham, N. C., were guests last Tuesday of Miss Iona Blakely and Aldine Blakely. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. King, with their grandchildren, Gigi, Mary Phillips and Nita King, have re turned from a visit with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Alec Cruickshanks, and their son and daughterin- law, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene King, in Gainesville, Fla. Mrs. Cruick shanks, who had been visiting in Clinton, accompanied them to Florida. Mr. ahd Mrs. Tommy Owens visited her mother, Mrs. Lila C. Stewart, and Mr .and Mrs. Fur man Ott at Hillsdale Ranch in the Cold Point section of Lau rens County last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. S. Carl Chaney spent several days in Fontana, N. C., last week. Mr. and Mrs. Sammy Chaney and children are vacationing in Florida. Mrs. Robert Wysor leaves this week for a visit in Pulaski Coun ty, Va., with relatives. Mrs. Robert Owens has re turned from Bishopville where she has been visiting her daugh- te rand son-in-law, the Rev. and Mrs. Carl Clary. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bass, Mrs. Joe Burgess and Miss Violet Burgess attended the graduation exercises at Massey College, At lanta, Ga., last week-end, where Jim Bass, Jr., was a member of the graduating class. He is con tinuing his education at Ogle thorpe University. Miss Violet Burgess, assistant chief nurse at the V. A. Hos pital, Fayetteville, N. C., has re turned after spending her vaca tion with her mother, Mrs. Joe Burgess. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Grady Chandler recently were Mr. and Mrs. Dick Lindsay and children, Ricky, Cathey and Robert, of Bennettsville. They were accom panied home by Mrs. R. S. Hor ton. MRS. COURTNEY VISITS Mrs. Lon Courtney Jr., of Johnston was an overnight guest at the home of Mrs. Walter John son and her daughter, Mrs. L. J. McCarthy Tuesday. She was ac companied to Clinton by Mrs. Allan Armstrong of Johnston, and her two children, Allan Jr., and Mary, who visited her aunt, Mrs. Hugh S. Jacobs and Mr. Jacobs. Mr. and Mrs. James Monroe and daughter, Libby, of Latta have been spending the week with Mrs. G. A. Burton, Miss with Miss Iona Blakely and Al dine Blakely. Prof., and Mrs. Earl Halsall left Friday for their summer home at Cedar Mountain, N. C., where they will stay fro the re mainder of the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Sowers and Mrs. N. W. McDaniel are spending two weeks at the Sow ers’ home at Bat’s Cave, N. C. Mrs. Harry C. Layton and her daughter, Miss Jean Layton of Greenville, are spending two weeks at Windy Hill Beach. They were accompanied by Carol Blakely of Greenville, and Mr. Layton will join them for the weekends. Mrs. J. C. Evans and daugh ters, Jackie and Pam of Glen Burnie, Md., and Mrs. F. M. Cleckley and her daughter, Mary, of Walterboro, are visit ing their mother and grandmoth er, Mrs. J. O. Crout and their aunt, Mrs. Edgar Blakely. Mrs. G. A. Burton has return ed from a two week’s visit with her son, Dr. Henry Burton and family in Charleston. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Harrison spent their vacation last week visiting Mrs. Harrison’s sister, Mrs. Fred Arve, and Mr. Arve in Madison, and seeing other relatives and friends in Seneca. Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Hamilton spent last week-end in the moun tains of North Carolina with friends from Walhalla. Returning last weekend from a stay at Litchfield Beach were Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Ferguson Jr., and children. Mr. and Mrs. C. W Hogan, Teresa and Fran, attended the afternoon performance of “The Sound of Music” at Ovens Audi torium in Charlotte, N. C., last Saturday. At the evening show were Mr. and Mrs. Billy Tiller, who spent the week-end in Char lotte. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Plaxico and grandchildren, Patti, Rob ert, and Nancy Plaxico, and Miss Nannie Young Tribble are spending this week at Bon Clarken, N. C. Mr. and Mrs. Harry McSween and children are back after a two weeks stay in Marianna, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. D. G. Creighton spent the weekend in Lafayette, Ga., this past week-end, going especially to accompany their daughter, Kathy, home following a visit with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wheeler. The Creighton’s son, Jim, remained for a longer visit. MAKING HOME IN CLINTON Mr. and Mrs. Truitt Willis and daughter, Teressa, have moved into their newly constructed home on Skyland Drive. The Willis family are former resi dents of Campobello. Mrs. Willis will begin his first year as prin cipal of the Joanna School this faU. Danny and Roman Jaskins spent the week-end in Charles ton with Mr. and Mrs. Frazier Lominack. Mr. and Mrs. E. L. King and son, Jim, of Columbia, and Debbie McGregor of Ruby, were week-end guests of Mrs. S. W Sumerel and their rela tives. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Bish op, Libby and David, and Irena Barnes were in Athens, Ga., several days last week and attended the Dixie Cap open house.
