; THE CLINTON CHRONICLE Clinton, a C„ Thursday, May 28, 1964 Transportation Club At CHS Holds Banquet Holds Banquet 24 head — The annual banquet for the Clinton High Transportation Club was held Friday night, May 22, in the Clinton High Cafeteria. The speaker for the evening was Eugene Shealy. Assistant State Supervisor of School Bus Transportation. Another highlight of the eve ning was the showing of a movie which included shots of Janet Lawson driving in the local and state school bus road-e-o’s. There were several awards given to deserving members of the club. Janet Lawson was awarded the outstanding driver award, the highest award given a driver. She is the first girl to be the recipient of this award. Sammy Wham received the best all-around driver award, which was donated by the Clinton J. C. Chapter. Alfred Harrelson was voted the most deserving substi tute driver. Vicki Boyd, CHS bus driver sweetheart, received a charm bracelet donated by J. C. Thomas, Jeweler. Preceeding the presentation of the individual awards, each reg ular driver, who has had an ac cident-free year, was presented a certificate of merit. These driv ers were given twenty-five dollar bonus checks Tuesday when they turned in their buses, still occi- dent-free. Also receiving awards were CHS traffic directors, Gloria Jackson and Bill Quaries, who were presented plaques in appre ciation for their help this year. As a climax of the awards pre sentations, President Janet Law- son presented Avery G. Smith, county supervisor of school bus transportation, a silver service in appreciation of his support and leadership through-out the year. He was also presented a plaque, engraved with the names of all the regular drivers. Recital Tonight For Von Hollen Pupils The piano pupils of Mrs. James Von Hollen will be pre sented in recital tonight (May 28) at 8 o’clock at the First Presbyterian Church. The public is invited. Mrs. Land's Pupils In Piano Recital The piano pupils of Mrs. Eva Land will be preseited in recital this evening (May 28, at the Mercer Silas Bailey School at 7:80 The public is invited. Whitten Village, Volunteers Meet The Whitten Village Volun teers met on Tuesday evening, May 19, in the auditorium at the Village, saw a wonderful presentation by Village stu dents, heard reports, and elect ed officers. Named to direct the activi ties of the Whitten Village Vol unteers for the 1964-65 year were: President, Mrs. Richard Ulrich; 1st Vice-President, Mrs. F. Vincent Smith; 2nd Vice-President, Mrs. J. M. Oe- land; Secretary and Treasurer, Mrs. Charles Waldron; Public Relations Chairman, Mrs. Ben Hay Hammet. Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Hammet are new offi cers, the others were re-elect ed for a second term. Also elected at this time was the nominating committee for next year—Mrs. J. K. Waits, Mrs. David Word, and Mrs. Carl t Franzen. Mrs. J. M. Oeland, 2nd vice- president, presided in the ab sence of the president and re ports were given by all project chairmen. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the program by a group of stu dents. The Physical Education boys demonstrated exercises and tumbling. The Blue Ribbon winners from the Home making Department’s Dress Revue were presented wearing thier winning ensembles. Several musical selections were given by the Junior Choir,. Senior, girls gave an excerpt from their ballet and a group from the Rhythm Group entertained the Volunteers with several folk dances. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Volunteers will be annual fall meeting in Sep tember. Poppy Day Sales Total Over $200 The American Legion Auxili ary observed the annual Poppy Day on Saturday. Mrs. Henry M. Young, chairman, reported that the total amount contrib uted was $263.20. Mrs. Young expressed appre ciation to all who had a part in making this project a success.
