Smith of Co lumbia spent several days last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Holland, coming es pecially to be with her mother, who is a patient at Bailey Memo rial Hospital. On Sunday they were joined by Mr. Smith and boys. VISITING SEVERAL WEEKS FROM IOWA Mr. and Mrs. Larry Swift of Des Moines, Iowa, arrived Mon day for several weeks visit with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Thomason. Mrs. Charlie Harper of Green ville and daughter, Mrs. McNutt visited recently with Miss Ruth Bailey. Gary Holcombe and Francis Blalock attended a demonstra tion Cleaning Clinic in Charlotte this past weekend. Paul Layton of Atlanta, Ga. visited during the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Cecil P. Wilson. Friends will be interested to know Miss Janelle Spence is con fined to the Lesh Infirmary due to illness. MAKES DEAN’S LIST Miss Susan Workman, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Hayne Work- ,man, was among members of the Dean’s List for the spring sem ester at Columbia College. Mr. and Mrs. Sloan Todd and family of Mrs. Charles Work man attended May Day JExercis- es at Erskine College in Due West on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Sheorn of Camden were guests this week end of the latter’s sisters, Mrs. W. A. Alexander, Mr. Alexander and family. ATTEND OPEN HOUSE AT WINTHROP Mr. and Mrs. Robert Johnson, Fred Fowler, Mrs. A. B. Stump and the Rev. and Mrs. John Rivers were among Clintonians attending “Open House” Sunday at Winthrop College. Mrs. W. C. Freeman and chil dren of Fort Benning, Ga., are visiting for several days with Mr. and Mrs. Oeland Furr. Mrs. Freeman came especially for the Furr wedding which will be an event this Saturday. - Mrs. Gary Holcombe and son Brent, Mrs. Clarence Copeland, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert John son visited the Rev. and Mrs. Walter Long in Belmont, N. C., recently. From there they visit ed with Mrs. Tom Porter who is recuperating at the Weleyan Nursing Home following several weeks of illness. Guests this week of Dr and Mrs. Marc Weersing is the lat ter’s mother, Mrs. W. E. Adams of Charlotte and also an aunt, Miss Faye McKinley of Char lotte. Miss Agnes Davis and Mrs. Frank Boland, Sr., spent the weekend in Augusta, Ga., visit ing Miss Azile Livingston. Mrs. R. E. Sadler is visiting friends in Lynchburg, Va. Mr. and Mrs. William Shields spent several days this week in Atlanta, Ga. on business. Mrs. B. M. Anderson Sr., of Reidsville is visiting Miss Louise Kern and Mrs. Ray Anderson. Miss Agnes Davis is planning a trip to Marion this weekend where she will visit Mrs. Claude Workman. King has returned from a weeks cruise to Bermuda. He was accompanied by his sister, Mrs. Harry Phillips and Mr. Phillips of Spartanburg. Mr. and Mrs. Grady Chandler spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Gus Taylor at their cottage home at Clark Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Pitts and daughter, Mary, and Miss Jan ice Whisenhunt of Spartanburg were guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bonds. Miss Barbara Eichelberger was recently dismissed from the Spartanburg General Hospital where she underwent surgery. Mr. and Mrs. Hailey Brown of Bowman, Ga., and Mrs. Walton Anderson and daughter, of Ath ens, Ga., were dinner guests Saturday of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Seymour and boys. Mrs. Hugh Eichelberger at tended the funeral of her sister- in-law, Mrs. Charles Sullivan on Tuesday of last week. Miss Katherine Davis of Au gusta, Ga., has returned after a several days visit here with her mother, Mrs. J. Asa Davis. Miss Davis accompanied her mother to Jacksonville, Florida where they visited their sister and aunt, Mrs. Perry Brooks. Mrs. Hugh Eichelberger and Mrs. B. F. Wingard attended a memorial service for Miss Lou- lie Eichelberger given by the American Legion Auxiliary in Laurens on Tuesday. CHOCOLATE SWIRLED COFFEE CAKE ' Maket 8 tervingt One 10-1/2-oz. pkg. easy 1/2 cup milk , coffee cake mix 1/2 or. (172 sq.) unsweetened 1 egg, unbeaten chocolate, melted and cooled Heat ovfen to moderate (875*F.). Put egg and milk into bag of . mix. Squeeze upper part of bag to force air out. Close top of bag by holding tightly between thumb and index finger. With bag resting on table, mix by working bag vigorously with fingers. (Mix about 40 seconds or until egg is completely blended.) Squeeze bag to empty batter into special aluminum foil pan contained in package. (Do not grease pan.) Drizzle melted chocolate over batter; swirl chocolate through batter. Sprinkle topping contained in smaller bag evenly over batter. Bake in preheated oven (375*F.) about 25 minutes. Open corner folds of pan for easy cutting and serving.
