Last October at.the fair, seven boys showed nine calves in the junior beef show. Since that time, five more boys have purchased six beef heifers and several others are expecting to purchase calves inTthe near future. N,' Earl and Bill Bryson of Owings recently purchased two purebred Heferford heifers, Mike Wickham of Clinton and Gene Smith of Clinton also purchased purebred Hereford heifers, Kelvin Bolter of Route 3, Honea Path has two Angus heifers. All of these boys are members of the Laurens County 4-H Live stock Club which meets each sec ond Saturday at 18:00 a.rm., at Thprnwell. Gene Smith is Presi dent of the club, Jimmy Smith is vice president, Pam Watt is sec retary-treasurer. R. L. Wickham is leader and R. L. Eason, assist ant County Agent is Extension advisor of the club. The boys'knd girts are advised on feeding and management of the animals and assisted in fit ting and showing. The climax of the year for these boys and girts with dairy and beef calves is showing their animals in the fair. Competition is keen and the animals look their best This is just another example of 4-H members going by their motto, “Learn by Do ing’’ and striving at all times “To Make the Best Better.” THANKS OUR FRIENDS Friends and neighbors, here and - there, That helped so much in our recent disaster.
