Submarine school. , Aj2-C Tommy Frazier, who has been attending a special school for 37 days in Denver Colorado, stopped for a short visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Frazier on Wednesday. Tommy was on his way to Charleston to await further orders. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Craven visited relatives in Walterboro and also went to Georgetown to visit her sister and family Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Elliot over the week-end. Kent Walker, student at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., will spend Christmas holidays with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Robert A, Walker of Clinton. Hie Walkers moved here recently, coming from St. Davids, Pa., Mr. Walker is connected with Man- sure in Joanna. Basketball is at its best — Dec. 19—Joanna men will play at Whitmire. Dec. 20—In Joanna, a double-header will be played, at 7:30 p.m. with the Lockhart teams. Parties—Sruprise, otherwise Mrs. W. B. Murrah surprised he son-in-law Tommy Brown, of Clinton, with a birthday (Unner on Sunday, Dec. 8. Mrs. Brown and sons, and Miss Nadine May wree guests also. Special guests at Le grand Banknight birthday party on Dec. 4 were his sister and fam ily, Rev. and Mrs. John Martin and Terry, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ivey of Newberry and W. M. Brown of Greenwood and Joan na. Mrs. Clara Stroud entertained 39 young people on Satur day evening at a surprise birth day party, for her daughter Audi. The clubhouse was decorated for Christmas and created a most pleasant atmosphere for the games that were enjoyed. After opening the many prettily wrap ped gifts, they were served cake, nuts and cokes by the hostess. Mrs. Mattie Stroud, Mrs. Mack Taylor and Mrs. Nicolas Kramm assisted Mrs. Stroud. The team of 4-H’ers placed first in the Guernsey group and fifth in the national over-all contest. Mike has been active in the 4-H program for sev eral years and has been a Laurens County judging team member for the past three years. Mims Laurens—John Luther Mims of 112 Dagnall Circle died late last Thursday at a local hospitad-f- after several months of declin ing health and three days of ill ness. He was a native of Laurens County, son of the late Ludie and Etta Wfeks Mims. He was a textile employee and a member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church. Survivng are his wife, Mrs. Mabel Garrett Mimsi ibr-e-e- brothers, Roy and D.' L. Burial was in Forest Lawn cemetery. Pvt. Richard Sanders Takes Marine Course Marine Private Richard G. Sanders, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy L. Sanders of Route 1, Clinton, recently completed the automo tive organizational maintenance course at the Marine Corps Sup ply School, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N. C. The school is one of several training programs at Camp Le jeune which provide technical knowledge and background for infantrymen of the Second Ma rine Division. At Florida Base signed to the 15th Artillery at Homestead Air Force Base, Fla. Quinn an engineer equipment mechanic in Battery D of the 15th Artillery’s 8th Missile Battalion, entered the Army in April 1966. The 24-year-old soldier attend ed Clinton High School. ITEMS OF INTEREST Ray Estes of Greenwood, son of Mrs. Lillian Estes, was select ed Airman of the Month for the month of December for devotion to duty and meritorious service. Ray is in the active reserves of the 81st ATS Charleston AFB. * * • On Saturday, December 14, Miss Jennie Rae Surratt appear ed on television over channel 7, Spartanburg, with the Lander College chorus. She is the accom panist for the 40 female voices. * • • Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wooten an nounce the birth of a daughter, Debra Sue, oft Tues., December 10, at Bailey Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Wooten is the former Miss Norma Carver of Newberry. CHURCH NEWS On Friday, December 20, at 10:00 a. m., the First Presby terian Church will have a Christ mas party for the Sunday school at the church house. On Sunday, December 22, at 7:00 p. m., the Joy Gift program will be pre sented. A social hour will follow. • • • The Church of God will present a play on Sunday night, Decem ber 22, at 7:00. Mrs. Doris A. Martin wrote the play and the title of it is “A Widow’s Christ mas.” The public is invited to attend. • » • On Friday, December 20, at 7:00 the juniors of the First Bap tist Church will have a Christ mas party. » • • The Epworth Methodist Church will have two parties on Satur day at 6:00 p. m., Christmas tree and Santa Claus for the children of the church. Wehunt was a pa tient recently at Cannon Memo rial hospital in Pickens. Her mother, Mrs. Lizzie Boggs, of Norris, is now a patient there W. C. Meadors is a patient at the Veterans hospital in Colum bia. Tom Furr is home now after a stay in the Veterans hospital in Columbia. Henry Hunter has returned to work after a short stay at Bailey Memorial hospital. Mrs. Buford Wier is feeling bet ter after a stay at Bailey Memo rial hospital. Jake Brown of Clinton, who operates a service station here, was admitted to Bailey Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, Dec. 11. W. B. Murrah was dismissed from Bailey Memorial Hospital December 7.
