Seal Begins Nov. 15 The Christmas Seal campaign which begins November 15, will be directed by a businessman, a housewife who trained as a nurse, and a doctor, according to Rev. James A Bowers. . Mr. Bowers is president of the Tu berculosis and Health Associa tion which serves Greenwood and Laurens Counties. John W. Drummond of Ninety Six and Greenwood, is chair man of the campaign which is conducted each year by mailing appeal letters containing Christmas Seals to individuals and to business and industry. Mr. Drummond, who is an oil distributor in the area, has served as a director of the two- county association for two years. Last year he served as chairman of the attendance committee for the annual meet ing of the association. He be came interested in* tuberculosis and it* accompanying problems recently when it struck tbs family of an employee and thetnby threatened his own family. Serving with him as co-chairman will he Mrs. Cary Bolt of Gray Court .and Dr. D. H. McFadden of Clinton and Joanna. / Mrs. Bolt has been interest ed in Tuberculosis since nurse’s training. She has been active in the association for many years. She has seen tubercu losis recede from the time when it was a mysterious, prev alent and rampant killer to the present day when it is a need less and known but lurking thief of health, time and money. Dr. McFadden, who la a for mer director of the association, studied in a tuberculosis hos pital. He has witnessed ad vances in treatment from the time when there was only bed rest and diet to the present day use of chemotherapy. Drugs are used now not only in hos pitals for active disease hut also for most patients at home following hospitalization and for some patients (particularly young children who have been What are YOU doing at the moment ... or this week-end? Wouldn’t you like to hit the road for a few hours, or maybe a day or longer, and enjoy the beautiful autumn weather? You may take your choice—the high road or the low road—and at the end of the road roam htorugh the hills or relax on the shore. And it’s possible to do both all in the same day in our wonderful State of South Caro lina. No matter where you start, how little or how much time you have, you’ll enjoy pleasant driv- in, beautiful scenery, and real hospitality any place you stop. If you take the high road, you’ll find beauty that is beyond description. The breath-taking beauty of the trees dressed in their autumn finery is an excit ing climax to this pleasant drive, but there is more in the Blue Ridge Mountains of South Caro lina. You may visit Table Rock and picnic 3,000 feet in the air. Legend says that this Table, and the Stool to the right of it, were once used for dining by a giant Indian chief. Take the children on a walk along a wild mountain trail, see cascading waterfalls, stop and fish in a rocky stream. Discover an old grist mill in the mountain country. Maybe you might find an old-fashioned square dance in the mountains. By now you surely will be get ting hungry, so find a place to suit your fancy and enjoy a meal ranging from “out of this world” dishes to real old Southern-type home cooking. Spend the night, if you will. You’ll be welcome at the finest motels, holds, and tourist homes. If you take the low road, you’ll probably find yourself some where on the Grand Strand, or maybe Charleston or Beaufort, where you may find plenty to see, and do if you’re in the mood. The Greater Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce says In dian Summer on the Grand Strand is the time “when breezes blow gently but the horns don’t blow at all.” Salt water fishing is at its best and the $10,000 Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo will con tinue until Thanksgiving. So, why not linger a while and do some fishing, and you just might be one of the lucky ones. A spec ial attraction for sightseers is the commercial netting of fish along the beaches at Cherry Grove and Ocean Drive Beach. Go!f is especially enjoyed at this season on the three 18-hole championship courses. Several motd and restaurant owners are offering attractive week-end golf ing vacations.
