Bynum Betts were honored at a church supper Wednesday evening at the Asso- elate Reformed Presbyterian Church. Dinner was served buffet from a table centered with an arrange ment of Tinnin« ftnri PrinCCSS feathers. Red hurricane lamps entwined with ivy were used at other tables. Following dinner a number of small girls of the congregation presented the Betts with gifts which were opened and passed. Miss Margaret Blakely, chair man of the supper committee, in presenting the gifts, from the members of the congregation, ex pressed appreciation to Dr. and Mrs. Betts, on behalf of the con gregation, for their long and faithful service. A number of invited guests from other churches also enjoyed the occasion. Welcome To 1963 College Freshmen On Thursday evening the Student Christian Association and the College Dames of Pres byterian College welcomed the freshmen to the campus with a reception on the patio of Douglas House. The guests were greeted by Hugh Harris, president of the SCA, Mrs. Nolon Carter, presi dent of the College Dames, and Dr. Carter. Others in the re ceiving line were Dr. and Mrs. Marc Weersing, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vance, Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Gettys, and Mrs. George Taylor. Students greeting the guests were Tommy Williams, presi dent of the student body; Tom Currie, president of the Blue Key fraternity; Bill Shearer, president of the Inter-Frater nity Council; and Randy Fitz patrick, Freshman Control Board Representative Other guests included the faculty, staff and administration of the college. The Carolina Wren club will meet Monday, Sept. 23, at 3:30 at Vernon’s, with Mrs. Fred Hol combe. Mrs. S. W. Sumerel, and Mrs. R. J. Tankersley as host esses. The Yellow Jessamine club will meet Monday at 3:30 at the home of Mrs. William Johnson, 604 Ce dar Street. Dr. Elizabeth Johnson of Rock Hill, will be the guest speaker and will give a talk on “Bulbs.” The Iris Garden Club will meet Wednesday, September 25, at 3:30 at the home of Mrs. Earl McEl- hannon. Simpson, chaplain, read portions from the report of the Department of Chaplains at the 45th annual conveniton of the American Legion, department of South Carolina, on “Religion and Education.” Following prayer by Mrs. Simpson, a musical pro gram was rendered by Mrs. Thomas Taylor and Mrs. Grace Connor, who were presented by Mrs. Julian Coleman, music chairman. Presbyterian Women To Hold Session Here Next Thursday The 64th annual meeting of the Women of the Church. South Car olina Presbytery, Presbyterian Church in the United States, will be held Thursday, September 26, at the First Presbyterian Church, Clinton. The meeting will open at 10:00 a.m. with Mrs. Baron McNinch of Ware Shoals, presbyterial president, presiding. Rev. W. Redd Turner, pastor of the host church will extend the welcome, and response will be made by Mrs. W. M. Leaman, president of the Liberty Springs Women of the Church. Delegates and visitors from all churches in the presbytery are expected to attend and lunch will be served by the Clinton church. A special guest for the occasion will be Mrs. E. G. McCall of Rock Hill, synodical president. Her address to the women will be on the subject, “What Is God Calling Me To Do.” One of the highlights of the morning session, in ad^jtion to the roll call of churches by the district chairman, will be the presentation of the Bible study by Dr. Julian Lake. Dr. Lake is pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Southern Pines, N. C. Also during the morning ses sion, reports from the general of ficers will be heard and Mrs. George Taylor of Clinton will in troduce the main speaker, Mrs. H. Kerr Taylor, of Atlanta. The latter Mrs, Taylor is employed by the Board of Women’s Work as program director of Personal Faith and Family Life. She wfll speak on the subject, “Worship God”, carrying out the 1964 theme of the Women of the Church, ‘‘Christian Worship”. The afternoon session will fea ture a presentation of the 1964 Birthday Objective by Mrs. M. G. Donnald of Laurens, presby terial vice-president, and reports from all committee chairmen. The session will close with the installation of officers by Dr. Turner who also serves as Pres bytery’s chairman of Women’s Work. Other general officers expected to attend are: Mrs. J. Cal Stev enson .recording secretary; Mrs. J. W. Poore, corresponding sec retary; and Mrs. James T. Stev enson, historian. PERSONAL MENTION Mr. and Mrs. James E. Wolfe have returned from Worchester. Vermont where they spent a short vacation at Equinox House as guests of the National Grange Mutual Insurance Company. They also visited the insurance company headquarters at Keene. N. H. before returning home. Mr. and Mrs. V. P. Adair have returned from several months stay with their daughter, Miss Vivian Parks Adair in Hampton, Va. Judson Brehmer was a busi ness visitor in Mobile, Alabama the past weekend. Accompanying h him were Mrs. Brehmer and son, Larry who got in some fishing in the Gulf Shores. The marriage will take place November 30 at the First Pres byterian Church in Greenville. Miss Stone is a 1961 graduate of Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., with a major in fashion de sign.. She has been employed in the design studio of Stone Manu facturing Company and in the Washington office of U. S. Senator Strom Thurmond. From March to August she was social director at the William Hilton Inn on Hil ton Head Island. Her memberships include the Junior League of Greenville, Inc., the Greenville Community Con cert Association, which she has served as vice-president and membership campaign chair man, and the Terpsichorean so rority. She is also a member of the National Society of the Dames of the Court of Honor and the American Bell Association. Mr. Fraser is the son of Lt. General and Mrs. Joseph B. Fraser of Hinesville, Ga. Having studied two years at Presbyte rian College, he received a B.S. degree from the University of Georgia and a law degree from Yale University. Mr. Fraser is president of the Sea Pines Plantation Company and of the William Hilton Inn Company. He is a member of the Oglethorpe Club in Savannah and the Metropolitan Club of New York City.
