Chronicle Sta tionery Shop. Are you in a rut? Many people are and do not realize it. Remem ber, the only difference between a rut and a grave is depth. Many young people who have grown up in these days of mod ern hard surfaced roads may not know what a rut is. In the old days of dirt roads, wagons and automobiles made ruts in the road by constantly driving in the same track. It was easy at first, but eventually the rut be came so deep that driving be came almost impossible. A friend of mine who is an au tomobile dealer told me of an experience he had with one of his salesmen who had gone into a slump. He walked out to the used car lot where he was working to talk with him He noticed that the salesman’s car was parked one the side of the lot in ruts which he had made by constantly parking there. He called him over and asked him to look what he was doing by always parking in the same place. He was getting deeper in the mud and getting PririrUirw sidewalls of his tires dirty, condition! My friend 8U *g Mte d ^ the the idea and got himself out of both ruts. It is so much easier to run along in the same old groove, the same old routine, but the practice is deadly. Again I say, the only difference between a rut and a grave ie depth. I’ve never forgotten a story which I heard as a boy. It was called The House with the Golden Windows. A small boy lived with his parents on top of a mountain. Across the va%y on another mountain stood a house which seemed to have golden windows as lit looked over at it on snnny days. He frequently commented about it to his parents and said that when he was old enough he wanted to go over and visit that house. Days and months passed and he grew larger and stronger. Finally, he asked his parents to let him go over and explore the house. His mother packed a lunch and sent him forth on his journey. Down the mountain he went. Then up the other side. Fin ally, he came to the house, only to discover that it was just tike his own. with ordinary windows. As he talked with the owner of the house about his disappointment, he utrned and looked over to wards' fils own house. He was amazed to see that his own house had golden windows. The sun which had shown from behind his house over towards the other house and had made the windows glow during the day, had come to shine behind him and on the win dows of his own house, making them likewise reflect a golden glow. No matter how dull and routine salesman drive his car out, clean up the tires, and park it in a new place. He then advised that he do the same thing with his sales methods. The salesman caught the dally job may be, when we reflect the sunshine of God’s love and beauty, the job changes and we change. It is a matter of reflection or absorption. It Is up to you.
